I thought maybe I would get used to the look of the concept, but I haven't. I didn't like it when I first saw it and time hasn't changed my mind. Ford missed on everything with this one.

Mini-H2, Honda Passport, Escape in steroids. All things that went through my mind when I saw and read about it. I don't like the styling or the drivetrain. The desiel is a good thought and probably runs well, but I would like to see the 4.6 or 5.4 as an option. The performance options for these motors is endless and that goes along with the original 289/302 V8.

I saw the Mustang Cobra pictures about the same time and thought,"Why couldn't they have done that with the Bronco?" They hit retro so well with that car, combining all the elements, merging the old styling with new technology, I LOVE it. But the Bronco missed the mark.

Hopefully Ford will spend time analyzing post on message boards and take some hints before bringing back another dead horse!

My 2 pennies,

Jeff

First off, the concept "Bronco" looks nothing like the original. End of story. I dont know what vehicle you guys who say it looks similar to are looking at, but to me it looks like a baby H2. Ford is doing the same thing that GM did to the Humvee. Ruining it. Secondly, why would you spend the projected 30-40k on this when you can BUILD your own ORIGINAL EB for almost half that cost? I mean come on, unless you have more money than brains (i.e. proto/stereo-typical soccer moms) why would you waste money on something that is FWD, 128 hp/244 ft lbs with a "nitro boost" that gives you up to 178 hp?

I am running my original 302 block, EFI, roller rockers, GT heads, cam, yadda, yadda, yadda......many extras that would take too long to write down and I am pushing in the neighborhood of 325 hp. Why would I give that up for a doggie diesel that came out of a EUROPEAN car? I also have real axels under my rig and probably the strongest frame ever built for an off road vehicle.

This is something that Ford definatly needs to rethink before they go forward with. Yeah, you will get the same crowd that bought into the Ford Tonka Truck concept, but what about the real world and real workings of the vehicle. I like the idea of making the product you have better....like they have finally done with the F-150.

How bout a real world cost comparison? If you do all the work youself, I mean take every nut and bolt off and put it back on, here is what it would look like:

New Concept Bronco: $30,000-40,000

Original 66-77 Bronco:

Purchase from junker - $2500

Suspension from WH - $2500

Axels (rebuilt or new) - $3500

Lockers - ARB - $1500

Transmission (4 or 5 spd) - $1200

Rebuilt 302 w/EFI - $2500

Body work/paint - $5000

Winch - $900

Tires/rims - $1400

=========================

Total Cost: $21,000

Having the knowledge that you have the best built off road vehicle ever manufactured?

PRICELESS

What the **** can I say? Bolt19 is right on the money. The new concept Bronco is a castrated whimp with styling that is standing on the shoulders of a truly great truck. It seems that automobile manufacturers have no idea how to balance cost of production with quality. Always err on the side of quality! I have owned a 75' since 1998. I admit that I am not a purist; the wheel wells are chopped and I have had many ideas about updating my truck that aren't original equip. It pains me to know that whimpy low hp motor with fWD trans might carry on the legacy. Take a page from Porsche and refine, refine, refine. With the ability of today's technology, The Bronco should not only have retro styling but also a powerful engine. Four-wheel drive should at least be an option.

Have owned Fords all my life & VERY dis-appointed with the looks & description of the new bronco. Would love it if Ford would just update the Bronco II as its great the way it was with the exception of rolling. They should of just fixed that & then go on to make the ford bronco II even better, with sweeter interiors & better seats,stero's,etc...

anything to update the original idea. here in Wy. they're used alot & can haul alot.

SHAME ON YOU FORD.......

I read, ponder, agree with most/all sides of this subject.

I think what's being left out here is "LAW-SUIT" .... If Ford were to build & exact duplicate of the EB, (with some drive-train up-dates) could it pass the safety standards...?

How many would end up in the wrong hands (kids) & give it a bad (accident) reputation...?

it looks ok, but its too modern, it needs to basded on the current trucks or at least similar, the little diesel isn't gonna cut it, the 6.0 liter powerstroke diesel would be cool as **** but ford won't do that, even a option between the 4.6 and the 5.4 would bee cool, but the one thing that turns me off the most, its front wheel drive, thats what kills it, so hopefully ford doesn't release this verion of the concept bronco, i have read online that there is another concept bronco on the way, maybe ford has been reading our comments...and whats up with the nos

What I'd like to know is, who's idea was it to put such an out of touch team of designers together to come up with the new bronco. This new bronco is exactly the opposite of what every enthusiast would want in a bronco. Before I go on my rant I've gotta say I like the touch of having the "work glove" texture for the seats, and how they still made it so you can take the top off.

Now lets get down to business. The new bronco it so far out to left field on this it's starting to look like a donkey. Here's some points so as not to bore you:

One of the things the bronco is known for is being a full size 4x4 with a short wheelbase. They managed to keep that with the new Bronco, but it's only a midsize 4x4.

The new bronco also has an independant suspension system with an integrated automatic 4WD. Sure all that who ha is nice and everything, but what happened to the good old fashion RWD with the solid axle, and the manual shift 4x4. These designers should have mimicked Jeep as an example. They've managed to please their buyers by providing them what the ******** enthusiats want in a 4x4, and what the normals want. What about everyone out there that want's the manual 4x4 shift on the floor with locking hubs. Or the big 351w with factory dual exhaust. What about the outside mounted tire on the back.

Maybe Ford did make some improvements on the bronco and perhaps better the new rig for the new milenium. But for the bronco guys like you and me that like to turn these machines into off roading rigs, or even just to supe up to drive around town, or to even just carry on the tradition of having a bronco, Fords done nothing but push me away, and made me think about buying a jeep instead.

Yes, they should follow the wrangler rubbicon as an example of what we want in a Ford, real axles real lockers, and being able to have all kinds of neat attachments, one thing i have notced on the trail is a good off road vehicle has real bumpers! never make a trail vehicle that the bunmper and the grill area is the same piece of plastic, same goes for the back not only will that front bumper conver rip off there on the trail but it will take the grill with it. also the back end when "when" it gets caught on a rock and gets ripped off will rip the half back of the quarters and fender flares with it. If you make the bumper and grill separate this will not happen plus you leave it open for ford and other 4x4 companies to make nifty off road bumpers and stuff. the key to a good saleable bronco is to have real trail suspension and have good attachment points for after market bumpers and things. the engine is fine. that will be a nice torqy lil thing, i horse power is for making larger rooster tails, when you stuck your stuck. now i guess putting huge tires will require more power but for some 31 or 33 that lil motor will be fine and you can always play with the boost levels, heck i would like to have that motor in my b2 vs that pos 2.9 i have now anyway look at where the wrangler is and that is what they need to do, i would much rather have a ford than a jeep but i would never buy a dolled up escape over a rubbicon.

The idea that the bronco is making a grand reappearance is cool, but the guys at ford really screwed up in the design dept. really!!! b-( if i were making the new bronco, it would be more like my '86 bronco 2, just modernized with some more sporty-yet off-road friendly suspension and more output per LITER, not c.i. like the rest of american cars. B) :)>-

I think the Bronco II was a flop on Fords part from the get go and they don't want to see another on the road. I'm sure if they do come out with it, the body disign will change a bit. Seems every new SUV these days are getting more tinny with light weight drivetrains in hopes to save fuel. I'd still like to see Ford come out with a new Bronco what ever it might look like just to get it going again. Ford must have felt the shock when they stopped manufacturing.

I don't think the price will be $30-40K either. from what heard they want to beat the price on every SUV out there. Sure they will have options that will raise the price but base models will be in the mid $20's.

They tried to ******* this one they shoulda just shortened the f-150 put a removable top put in lockers and a built in winch, make it the ford out of the box wheeler like the Jeep rubicon or the new power wagons. then in like ten years when I buy one of some yuppie who never wheeled it I'll be set.

They should be building 2 bronco's. A compact and a fullsize. One built on the f350 platform with a shortened wheelbase, and have the 6.0 stuffed under the hood. That way the bronco's gonna be built with heavy duty axles and the diesel engine is going to be an awesome candidate for all the aftermarket goodies for diesel.

Now the compact bronco should be more of a contender for the jeep. It should have solid axels, available lockers and winch and knobbie tires straight from the factory! Now that's juicy.
