Ok, so my 10" lifted 87 just died on the other day while driving it, but just the engine shut off everything else stayed on. I tried to start it and the engine would just crank and it sounded like it wanted to kick over but couldn't. So i was told it was my fuel pump (external) so i replaced it today 8/17/6 along with the fuel filter everything went fine and still not luck i can here the pump working when i turn the key on so i know it's not a bogus pump but the engine still just keeps cranking... i have put a new ignition mod. in @ 6 months along with new cap and rotor and coil, i do off road with it but this did it 2 weeks after i went roading and i drive it everyday and it randomly died. so i'm at a loss for a solution... anyone

Thanks in advance.

You also have an internal fuel pump, inside the 32-gal gas tank. Check that it's getting fuel to the filter and external pump on the frame. Also, check the fuses, esp for the fuel pump relay. JSM84

If your fuel system is working you will smell gasoline in the exhaust after a while of cranking it, or you could check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. cheaper and easier than replacing the pump.

check your ignition system as well, could be a slightly defective part just waiting to die, easiest way to check this i know of is to grab an extra plug and hook it up to one of the plug wires then clamp the thread to something grounded, then crank it if you see a spark you know thats working.

If both systems appear to be working then you might have an electrical problem with the fuel infection.
