I am new to the rebuilding and admit i do not know as much as you guys. I recently spoke with a person at one of the bronco shops and was told a 289 engine would bolt into my 1966 bronco that had the inline 6cyl. Well, my frame has been blasted and powder coated. 289 motor mounts were purchased and mounted on the engine. When lowering onto the frame, the motor mount angle to the frame bracket are different and does not bolt up. Will it bolt up if i used the higher performance mounts that has the adjustable angle for the post to fit into the frame bracket? I hope not to have to cut the 6cyl. brackets off and replace with the aftermarket v8 brackets. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, bucky66.

I'm sure S Bolt will have something more difinative to say about it, but unfortunately all the EB's I've ever built or worked on already had the V8 frame mounts so there wasn't a problem but the 240/300 HAD to use a different frame mount The diffrence between an inline and a Vee is just too big to let you use the same mount. The 289/302/351 all use the same weld-on frame mount but the 240/300 mount has got to be different. I know it's NOT what you want to hear after blasting & coating the frame but there it is. If you want to run a V8 you're gonna need V8 frame mounts or at the very least you're NOT going to be able to use the mounts you currently have, however you want to look at it. I've never heard of a motor mount able to bridge that gap, maybe one exists but I've sure never seen it.

Yup, BB78's right, you need to get new motor mounts. The I-6 mounting won't match up to the 289/302/351 block. Sorry for the trouble.

Ive never done this conversion but I would also imagine that the bell housing depth or the transmission mounts may be farther back than on a V8 Bronco. That I-6 is a few inches longer than the V8. Is the transmission the same? Ive heard of people installing the V8 into an I-6 Bronco and then hacking up the firewall for clearance. And hopefully that clearance wasnt for the distributor.....wrong end.
