hey guys i got a 1987 ford bronco 4x4 with a 302 efi and would like 2 know how 2 get enough power for cheap to be able to burn rubber just by power brakeing, it has about 45,000 mi on a rebuilt motor and run's excellent but it won't burn rubber, which is kinda embarissing cause im a 18 yr old guy who likes to show off...lol

please any help would be great ! i know intake, exhaust, and headers would probably do the trick but was woundering if there was anything cheaper...

Yes... tread lightly on the gas pedal, you will get better gas mileage.

IMO this is NOT where a Bronco shines. IF you want to show her off, its on camping trips, and pulling out other stuck 4x4's. Keep her clean... or muddy, but not just dirty. Show off her sporty ruggedness.

Have fun, stay out of trouble, and don't do anything stupid.

Don't take her where you do not belong.

Your friends will respect you more, and as you show respect for your "I can take you anywhere" vehicle, they will also respect it for its abilities.

just my 2 cents.

First question i have is what size tires are you running the bigger they the harder it is going to be to light up them tires. When i was in high school i had an 86 ford bronco pretty much stock just headers and dual exhaust. I had 30" tires and 3.55 gears in the rear and i could light them up no problem, doing a brake torque. I do how ever recommend that you keep it to a minimum. I ruined my trany doing brake torques. I had a lot of fun at a lot of expense. and that is not including new tires in the rear. I wish i had some pics of the burn outs i did. i think some people wouldnt beleive a bronco would be able to do such burn outs. and be stock for the most part.

The Bronco was not designed to spin the tires, it was designed to be able to yank and dig so when your buddy gets his chevy stuck you can just hook up a chain and pull him out without even thinking twice.

man i have a 302 in my 1992 . i used to burns my 31s all day till they got bald and i have 33s now. i can still do it. its just the way u do it.

hold on to the brake and give it about 2000-2500 rpm's....then slightly let off the brake to move foward a little bit and when doing this give a little more gas then hold the brake down again. and the one tire on the right side will start to spin. hard to do on new pavement but really easy to do when its wet .

ohh and another thing. do not ever go mudding in a construction site or on someone elses property. i went mudding in a vacant construction lot and left. well about 30 mins later i get pulled over. thye said that i was to pay a fine for tearing up the dirt that was just grassed and seeded. i had no idea. well i never paid it but just saying. dont ever do it. big fines.

Seems like you are still intent on burning out.

I have 33's on mine and never considered trying to burn out, so I don't know if my 302 could do it. However based on the comments of the others, it seems as though you should be able to smoke those 30 inch tires. Since you can't you may want to do some trouble shooting of your fuel and electircal system to see why you are lacking power.

All you need is a cheap voltmeter, and a short length of wire.

Your computer monitors the functioning of your engine and its sensors, and will set DTCs for you to retrieve.

WHy don't you pull codes and let us know what you come up with?

Even if your Check engine light is NOT on, check for codes.

I found a great article on how to test for codes.

http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/files/self_test.pdf

This will be of particular interest to those with 1984 through 1988 models, but is also excellent for those up to the 1995 models.

With an '88 the only tools you will need to check for codes is a short jumper wire, and a cheap volt meter.

Here are the connectors that you will find by the driver's wheel well, that you will jump with the jumper.

every time i look at my bronco i dream about how nice it would be to burn out... i would settle for being able to keep up with the newer trucks on the road. being that it shares the same size motor as mustangs which are pretty bad ass it seems like you could swap some parts and be pretty damn quick. but after a while reality sets in and like a couple other guys said i realize that the bronco is what it is. a TANK slow but bad ass off road.
