well i have a 88 bronco w/351 that i have been nursing along for the last couple of years and i have decided to fix it up. so far i have done the exhaust and tires. but now my main battle is fighting all the different leaks that i have. from what i can tell i an leaking oil from the back of the engine, looks like rear main seal. anyone know what it would cost to get that repaired? the other thing that i am leaking is transmission fluid from 2 places. one in the rear of the transfer case and the or is from some where on the pass. side of the trans mission. i checked all the lines and they are solid and are tight. anyone have any ideas on the second leak? well for now those issues is all i am going to post about so if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, even if you can point me in the right direction that would be great.

Theres a o-ring on the dipstick tube where it goes into the tranny, Thats on the passenger side, Have a look at that. As for the rear main seal, either you have to remove the tranny or the engine, If you have many leaks you'd be better of yanking the engine and replacing all the gaskets. Very easy to do if you have the engine out on a stand. If you cant do it yourself, I'd try and find a Mechanic that would do it at home on the side, would save you a ton of cash, or you can expect upwards of 1000.00 for a shop to do it. Thats just the removal of the engine and the re-install, not including the parts and the labor to fix the leaks.

the rear main seal will run you about 1500.00 depending on the labor rate thats why mine still leaks yes can do your self esp. since your t-case and tranny are leaking pull the case and tranny out take care of the leaks on them and before you put them back take care of the rear main sounds like I am raelly making it sound eayier than it is but it is easier than yanking the engine

sounds good to me i will post some other stuff later on once i get the everything to stop leaking. one other quick thing i bought the rear main for the bronco and it is one piece. some people that i have talked to said it should be 2. it also seems if the rear main is a seal that is pressed onto a ridge at the rear of the engine. does this sound right or am i dumbing the whole thing down to much? that part only cost me like $20. made by felpro. let me know what a thinkor if i need to explain it better .
