if you go historic, you don't have to get an inspection done on it? and you can get regular insurance on the vehicle without letting the insurance know that you put historic plates on it? How would I go about getting the historic plates? Who would I give the pictures too? I would want to go that way, because I'd have to do some emissions modifications to pass. Historic sounds like the way to go, to me anyways.

Ok it doesnt matter what insurance you have on it to get the tags. You can call them @ 1-888-486-3339.They have just allowed certain DMVs to sell QQ tags right there. If you call them they can send you out the application through the mail, for that you have to send the money and pictures and copy of title and application and in usually 2 weeks you get your tags through the mail,Then scrap off you inspection sticker and you done,,,, But ask which location near you you can walk into.Unless you want to go to Trenton directly. And you would give the pics to the DMV,where ever you get the tags. And emissions,HA,No more inspection. Now dont take this as you can neglect the repairs the truck needs.I plan on acting as if I still have to go through inspection just to keep everything safe.Of course they say your only suppossed to use it for "exhibition or educational purposes by the owner".But everyone I know never gets bothered.Anyway what can they do about it,The state approves you for the tags, not the police. So ***** em.And the number only works of course from 8:30 to 4:30.Wish I had those hours.Anything else just ask.

so you really don't even have to tell your insurance company.. thats good. The only reason I won't pass emissions is because I took the 2bbl carb off and my 4 bbl doesn't have an egr. Calling up and ordering the plates isn't an issue because of I don't plan on putting it on the road until January. I appreciate the help.. Thanks

Like I said it has NOTHING to do with insurance,You HAVE to have insurance..As for you passing emissions,You switching to a carb without an egr isnt going to make you fail.A common thing to do for these engines is put a 4bbl intake and carb on them.Unless you live in California you dont need to worry about the egr.I have a 4bbl eldbrock intake and 600 holley on mine with out an egr,and mine runs super clean. The Co and Hc standards for these are 300ppm.Mine usually runs like 30 on COs and like 110 on HCs,Way below the 300 mark.So I wouldnt even waste my money on the plate,Its just another part (EGR) you have to worry about going bad one day and causing problems.Im planning to go get my tags around Oct 1st right down the street from me a couple of towns away at the DMV. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I just moved back to new jersey from arizona and I know there I failed for no egr. Passed the emissions part but failed the visual part. I didn't know how jersey works with the older vehicles. She runs great with just the intake and carb. I have a 600 edlebock carb and intake. I drove it from Phoenix, Az all the way to northern new jersey and all I lost was a starter, which in my opinion it wasn't bad.

Yeah in jersey they dont look for whats on the engine,They just stick the sniffer in the tail pipe and see if it passes. At least its one thing this state kept simple <_<

Man, you guys got it easy. My bronco is apparently the only vehicle in California that refuses to pass smog. We can put out something like 300 Hc. and Im around the 4000 mark. They told me I need a new cap and rotor, so I replaced the cap, rotor, plug wires, and spark plugs and I ended up at 4500 Hc. So I tried adding some fuel additive and running through a tank of gas, And I still failed. So after 5 times to the smog shop and losing my transmission on the way home last time, My temporary tag ran out and even though my truck is fully registered with the great state of California! They refuse to hand over my liscense plates until I show proof of vin verification and smog paperwork and now I guess they have to pressure test my gas tank. And DMV wont hand me a day pass to drive the dang thing anywhere, so I have to tow it to a smog shop. DONT EVER MOVE TO CALIFORNIA!

Well HCs are unburned fuel.If you did all that and it didnt get better,Id check the carb adjustment and your timing. And EGR operation if you have one.Your out of tune somewhere..Anyway I got my Historic tags.I came home put them on and scraped off my inspection stickers. So NO more inspection for me.

All they can do is try to break your balls, but the reality is that I paid registration, just like any other vehicle and have insurance like any other vehicle.Thats the states fault for making historic tags have no inspection. If I do get pulled over Ill just tell the cop if he has a problem with it,to take it up with trenton.Theres nothing he can do.Im totally legal.Well with the exception of window tint on my front door windows,I guess thats one ticket ill be paying. But I still wont take it off,If the police can have it so can I. <_<
