Just took my top off for the first time last week and - surprise - noticed that it looks like there used to be a trim piece inside the cab covering the gap between the headliner and the removable top. Any ideas on where I can get a replacement (called the local junkyards with no luck). Also, only about 2/3 of the bolts attaching the top to the body connect. The rest either don't touch anything or just go so far and stop tightening. Looks like the connections are just the slide in groove clips, not true bolt holes cut into the body. Is this standard? Finally, there is no insulation between the top and the body, should there be? If so, where can I get a replacement.

Thanks,

You can get all the rubber insulation parts form LMC Truck or Jeff's Bronco Graveyard. The clip on nut things are what came from the factory. I've not seen them anywhere, but then I've never been looking for them. You might find them in the "HELP" section of your local parts store or of course from a dealer. The trim piece, unfortunately, will only be available through the dealer (if they even still make them). Your best bet for those is to keep searcing the junk yards.

I have the trim pieces off of my '86 that you can have. I don't know if they changed at all from '86 - '91, and they are blue in color, but if you want them you can have them for the cost of shipping.

Give me a shout if you are interested.

Hey, that would be great. I really appreciate it. Let me check to verify that they will fit.
Thanks!
I can't imagine why it wouldn't fit. I honestly have to say I've never *had* to swap those pieces from one year to another but the top has never changed and that part of the tub has never changed either. The only things Ford ever really screwed around with were the nose & tailgate trim. Later tops have the provision for the shoulder belts but the the basic design of the top as well as the top-to-tub bolt pattern has always been the same.

Those bolts can be tricky. Perhaps someone else can backstop me here but I recall my 78/79's having a "slot" that the bolt fed thru into on the tub & there was a sort of threaded washer/rectangular nut thing (thicker than a washer and not really a washer at all but I really don't know what else to call the thing, a rectangular nut maybe) that rode in the slot. I distinctly remember having to use an awl or marlinspike as a spud-bar to slide the nut thingie into position so that the threaded hole would line up with the hole in the top. If the nut was out of position (either slid too far forward or back) then it was possible to put the top on & insert the bolt but it wouldn't contact anything & just dropped down into the slot. I have the top off my 88' & just went out for a looksie and sure enough the same stupid thing is there but only in the last position on each side right next to the tailgate. All the other holes just use fender clips, once again I'm sure that's the wrong word but it's what I've always called the things because they're the same type of clip used to secure the fenders that I always lose ( I've changed way too many fenders after the occasional off-road faux pas). You can pick those up at any Napa or Autozone, I always find them on those spinning tree things that they plant all over the store, they come packaged in small plastic bags & come in various thread sizes (3/8", 1/2",9/16" take your pick) cost about $3 last time I got any

Broncobill, you're saving my butt man. Thanks. I also had questions about those "fendor clips" so I will try the autoparts stores.
