edit: Does anyone here know how many bolts hold the harmonic balancer? Also, are the bolts spaced out to where they can only be aligned one way? This truck is starting to confuse the **** outta me with all the things that its got wrong

I have seen this happen before buiding a motor from parts get a 302 pointer on a 351 some are in different places , The harmonic balancer is only held on by 1 big bolt right in the middle the outter ring may have slipped also the inner and outer are joined by rubber so thats could have happened I had a 302 one time that you couldnt even see the numbers from the top with a timing light they were all the way to the bottom wierd but ran great . Just follow my directions and mark the balancer where the pointer lies as TDC . Thats all you have to do TDC compression stroke and follow the firing order make sure that battery is charged up good and there is gas going down the intake and it will either start or blow fire out the intake it just has to if you compress the fuel air mix and ignite it at the right time it has to make something move . It will start a coule of degrees before or after TDC might not run the best but it will start . Has anyone ever had this motor apart ? High miles ? Timing chain may have slipped :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yup, i marked where TDC should be, now all i gotta do is go get a starter lol.

To be honest, i dont know if anyone ever has, from the looks of things, the block itself doesnt have rust, it actually looks almost brand new. Either someone pointed it in the engine compart or they've actually pulled it out. The motor mount bolts are chipped/scratched a bit, im thinkin the motor has been pulled before. As for the timing chain, i'll probably end up checking that out later on down the line (soon, sorta) just to make sure everything is right.

And last, i dont know about the miles, the odometer reads 89,7xx but who knows if its rolled over before. Thanks for your help!

Well i found out why the starter wasnt working, on the starter itself, the bracket that contains the 2 bolt holes broke at one end (only 1 bolt was holding the starter in). I bought the replacement starter, its just too darn cold outside to work on it right now. Not to mention i have to buy a bolt too.

The balancer is behind the crank pulley. The crank bolt holds the balancer to the crankshaft. Most likely the outside of the balancer has spin on the rubber damper between the inner & outer parts of the damper causing the timing marks to be out of position. If you can see rubber pushing out of the damper this could cause your concern. I have seen this problem several times including some of my own vehicles. Hope this helps.

alrighty. . . i've tried it all and still no go <_<

I've tried both 302 and 351 firing orders, and still nothing. . . I only get it to backfire, but thats about it, it will not start up.

I bought a new blaster ignition coil thinkin that was probably it too, but nope. Anyone. . . any additional advice?

Hey, i got it up and running!

Besides my lil ignition problem. . . . the carb was flooding the engine (plugs were wet, really wet, so i pulled the spark plugs out and let it vent for a few hours, then adjusted the carb a bit.)

I gotta say it runs alot better then before, but im still running really rich. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
