I'm not familiar with the electric in trucks of your vintage but it could be one or more of several possible problems:

1. The battery may be dead. Check the voltage at the terminals.

2. Remove the cables from the battery and clean them and the battery posts.

3. Could be the connection at the solinoid where the cable from the battery connects, remove nut and clean the lugs and terminal.

4. Check where the negative cable from the battery connects to the engine block, take it off and clean it.

5. One of the battery cables may be bad.

6. If your truck has fusable links you may have blown the main link. It will probably be right next to the solinoid where all the wires connect.

7. If your truck doesn't have fusable links check to see if it has a main fuse, it may be blown.

Good luck,

:)>-

Check if power is getting to the key. Might even need a new key switch.

Do the lights come on? If not sounds like a loose connection on battery or on the frame or starter. but could be the solenoid. They are cheap so after checking to make sure everything is tight, replace it. If that doesn't work it could be the voltage regulator failed and drained the battery. Try charging the battery over night. Could be the alternator not charging the battery. If it fires up after charging then its not the battery. Otherwise you have a short somewhere... Do you have lots of stuff plugged to the back of the key? might have popped that fuse.

Sounds like the starter selinoid. I usually carry an extra one around for that particular reason. They can go out at any time. Question though? when you turn the key on does it just sit there and "click, click, click"? if it does then go down and buy a selinoid and replace it. No big deal. You also might want to check what side your negative on the battery is. If it is on the side closest to the fender, it could have come loose and slid over and grounded out. Then you just need to find the right fuse and replace it and tie that battery down a little better. But it sounds like the selinoid went belly up on you....if thats the case, carry an extra one around with you.
