I finished my paint and body work and now I noticed my heater and defrost do not work at all. I was thinking about replacing the heater motor, but not sure if this is the only step. I also have some ripped ducts ( accordion style ducts ) as well. The knobs do not do anything either. Is there an easy way to fix this problem and an easy way to replace the ducts with a simple tubing maybe something Napa will carry.

This is a pretty simple fix.

Jumper wire the motor wires & see if it will purr....(or, probe with voltmeter & see if there's power, or both.)

Usual problems;

Wire broken/off/or switch is dirty or bad.

Push/pull nobs are rusted stuck.., or the ends have slipped off the rods on heater box.

(just stiff wires in a flex-tube)

Years of trash down in the air in-let plugging things up..! (including the heater core.)

BUT..! It's simple to remove the four nuts under hood...pull the whole unit out...(takes maybe 10 min.) & clean/repair everything at once.

The ducting is easy to get to that way.. & several stores have that ducting.

You can make new gasketing..or buy the kit.

Most of the big name vendors sell a reseal kit for about $20. Check Wild Horses, Bronco Graveyard, Duff, BC Bronco's, Tom's just to name a few.

And if you plan on replacing the blower motor, don't go back to the original EB one. I would upgrade to a higher output motor. The easiest swap is using the motor & squirrel cage from a 76 Chevy 3/4 ton pick up truck. I did this last year and the heat difference is amazing. I can actually feel the heat in the back seat. The Chevy motor is slightly larger than the original EB one is, so you will need to open up the hole in the box, but once installed, you can't tell that it isn't factory.

Aw $hit. Much as it hurts my parts to admit, S Bolt is right. You *don't* want to replace a blown blower with a stock unit. You want a hi-output blower and much as it pains me to say, the Brand-X part is superior. He's right. I don't know if it's the components or the workmanship but the plain & simple fact is that the Brand-X blower moves more air and keeps you a lot warmer. I've embarrassingly participated in two of these swaps, both done in Massachusetts and if you live in a cold climate I have to say that at SOME point practical issues overcome emotional ones. As much as it hurts, just do it and then tell everyone that you're running some sort of new SVO blower but forget the part #. That small white lie is pretty easy to live with and it gets a bit easier every time you tell it.

try looking here....good stuff and oem. I replaced the heater core, motor blower, and swithc behind the ****. I always replace everything in front of or behind the problem so as to eliminate problems in the future....preventative maintenance.
