79 Bronco The heater control is stuck on defrost. I move the leaver and nothing happins. But I can move it to the off slot and it does turn off. My 79 Ford truck was the same way.Does anyone got any input an this.

the control pantel on these are rub by vaccum. One way is to listen as you move the controls to see if you can hear a leak. if not try pulling the pantel and looking over the hoses real well. since you can get defrost and turn it off evverthing else checks out i'd try replacing the switch or even head to a wrecking yard and grab another temp control pantel to swap in.

If you have A/C, then the controls are run by vacuum. If you don't have A/C, then everything is controlled by cables. You may have pulled the diverter door past it's stop point and jambed the door. Trace the cable back or vacuum line to the diverter door and see if you can move the door by hand. Once you have the door free, adjust the cable so it doesn't happen again.

I had the same kind of troubles. I didn't want to fool with replacing the climate control unit since it seems like such a nightmare! I disconnected the control unit's cable that attaches to the heat/defrost door in the plenum. If you look behind and to the right of the cigarette lighter area on the dash, you will see a cable connected to a control arm. You can disconnect the cable, and then when you want heat versus defrost, just reach behind the dash and raise the control arm. I know it's a redneck fix, but it works! At least it won't cost you anything to make it work. The only problem is that the fan has to be set to the 2 fastest speeds to keep the door in the heat position.
