Hey guys, Planning on changing gears in front axle (IFS) to match rear. I know setting the lash should be done at the same time, but swapping out the gears approx. how long.

Well I don't know much on rears and front end internal wise, but IFR is Chevy and TTB is Ford so before all the chevy haters get on your case I thought I'd let you in on the secret. Now why do you want to mess with the front end? More detail and a story is always nice... Especially for us military guys who have nothing to do at work here in the desert... We need something to read.

When I say IFS I call it Independant Front Suspension. I want to change the gears because I got a 9 inch rear end with

4-10 gears. I want the front to match and I have the gears to match, but trying to figure out how much time to set aside for the job

yeah, you certainly want to change the front and rear gears so they match up. Figure about 8 hours time to remove the Dana44 TTB carrier/gears, swap them out and put back in. You'll have to pull the axle shafts out first, and on some models the passngr-side inner shaft has a C-clip holding it inside the chunk. You need a new carrier for gears over 3.92:1. It's a good time to consider an Aussie locker or even a spool up front if you offroad much. I put a full spool in the front of my 84 Bronco before I sold the axles. It is somehat harder on axleshafts than an open diff, but you only use 4WD off the pavement. And turning ws not that big an issue on loose dirt, sand or gravel. JSM84
