yo!

You have a 1990?

If so (really doesn't matter in this case tho, but pls add the specs, year, & type of engine, tranny, xfer case, hubs etc in your signature for better replies);

Most likely the fuel pump relay is hanging up. ... tap on it a few times when this happens..maybe prob (motsture, junk parts, etc.) will go away. Pull the relay off and FP will shut off (with ign/eng off)

if it goes on....and on... Replace the fuel pump relay; cheap, but avail at yards

or;

here it is;

the one Under the hose is the FP relay (GREEN CONNECTOR, to the Left of the BROWN conn (it is the EEC relay, that provides V to that FP Relay.

Thats probably right, I have had problems with two ford trucks' relays. Mine both warped the thin metal arm in the relay so it would not make contact. My BroncoII kept doing it until I got sick of replacing them. I pulled the covers off and bent them back into shape. I would keep a spare with me because it would do it every month or two!
