So I have been pondering buying some of the much advertised Fuel injector cleaner for my 93 Bronc... has anyone ever tried this stuff? Is is just a bunch of BS or does it work? Any thoughts on the matter are appreciated THANKS

There aren't any "Mechanics in a can." Most of them are BS. However, running a good injector cleaner once a year is not a bad idea. With the detergents most gasolines are using now, engine deposits are at a minimum. I ONLY buy two products, one for oil system and one for fuel. Marvel Mystery Oil for oil. Run a can through every 12-15 thousand miles. Add this can along with the normal amount of oil when you change it next time.

Second, for fuel, buy a couple of the pourable cans of Berryman's B12 Chemtool. Add the appropriate amount to a fresh tank of gas. For that tank, your fuel enconomy might drop a little, but after it's run through it will be better. B12 has been used for years cleaning carb's and as an additive.

The only other additive is if you are going to store fuel for extended periods of time (more than a month or two), and that is STA-BIL.

These three, very inexpensive additives should be in everybody's garage. Hope this helps.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Although if your budget is low, then it wouldn't hurt to try it, but if you have the money, get new fuel injectors along with a fuel filter.

thats not totally true. if u have an excessive carbon build up in your eng such as on top of the intake valve or on top of the pistion it can Absorbe the fuel that is ment to burn inside the combustion chamber. causeing lack of power and possibly a knocking sound due to preignition. Useing fuel injector cleaner breaks down this carbon and allows it to be burnt and then go though the exhaust valve and it's se ya lata bye for it :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> i would only use 3 things.

1. BG fuel system cleaner.

2. Techron additive.

3. Mopar combustion cleaner

the latter is avaiable at any local dodge dealer. all three work well as i have used them and have seen verry good results with them. useing a borascope to inspect inside the eng.

but that is my 2 cents so take it or leave it but in some extreem cases fuel cleaner "can" be like a mechanic in a can :glare:

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

Anyways, I agree, if it was an emergency, or a low budget situation, then by all means use the Fuel Injector Cleaner.
