I am looking for a stock 400 CID rotating assembly (Crank, Rods, Pistons, Bearings, etc.). I have been looking for aobut 3 weeks now, no luck. I am trying to freshen up my 351M without spendng a ton of money. I know a 460 is the way to go, however, the area I live in is "chevy country", everyone has 2 or 3 SBC 350's laying around. Any help will be appreciated thanks.

I am in Blazer ****! It's always great yanking the "good ole' boys" out of the mud.

I think this is an article you should REALLY take a look at. 500hp & 565 lbs. of Torque from a 400. A 351M is *identical and with minor machinework it will provide the same numbers. This is probably the BEST write-up I've seen of the 351M/400's potential. You can get an easy 400HP from it if it's well-planned and well-built. The info in this article take it to an entirely different lavel. READ & absorb what these guys have to say. Print the article & put it in your toolbox so you neve lose it (internet articles have a way of disappearing over the years)

Hey I may be a ***** however I could find no 400 crankshafts on summit.com. I found about 100 for Chevy 350s and Ford 302s but nothing for a 400. I have found several parts stores locally but they are talking $400.00 with a core charge. That is a little more than I want to spend on just a crank but I guess I will go for it if no other options arise. I hate the fact that they have warehouses full of performance parts for a bastard 350 engine. I guess they need it when you drive something that unreliable.

broncobill, wheres the article you mentioned??? i want to read it
You're right, I forgot to post it and between then & now I've lost the damn link. *However* I found it again after looking around for a bit. If you'[re a 400 fan then ck out THIS article about a stroked & injected 434. If *this* doesn't get your heart beating then nothing will, and $hit, I'll even post the damn link

And these are NOT exotic parts, this is an engine *anyone* can build, the parts are out there and redily available to anyone who wants them. This ain't one-off stuff.

The 351M/400 uses the same basic 351C architecture so you can consider the 400 to be a large 351C since most of the Cleveland parts work with it (except for the rotating assembly). It's an excellent article about building a nice fuelie 400.
