Flywheel Messed Up

i got a 1989 ford bronco with a 351m automatic transmission and my father took and had a starter put on in tennessee and they put a 1979 ford bronco starter on it and it a grind down the theeth on the flywheel and i was wandering if i took and put the right starter it would work or if i sould put a new flywheel on?

It depends on how bad the ring gear is chewed up. Pull the starter and look at the teeth, if they are in bad condition, keep the tools out and start pulling the tranny to replace the fly wheel.
