hi i just bought a 83 bronco from my dad but i am having some problems with the flexplate or starter. the original flexplate was replaced several years ago and ever since then we have had a problem where the starter does not engage with the flexplate by more than 1/16 of an inch or less. over a couple of months the two wear out and it wont start it makes a gringing nosi like its missing teeth. the flexplate has been replaced 2 times now and we have tried many starters but nothing seems to work. it has a 351 motor from ford so iam not sure on the year but it has the original c6 tranny. any help would be great cause it has been siting too long and needs to be driven.

is it possible to put the flex plate on backwards i know you can on a chevy
yo

good Q...I haven't worked on a C6 in years...all I recall is that there should be 1/8" gap between the converter mounting pad & da flex plate

and hard to measure w/all in Bronco...look @ Audra's pics here

Suggest you take the starter to an Auto Electric Shop; let them test/inspect... btw, where did you buy the starter?

i was looking up flexplates and noticed at jbg they offer a flexplate for 80-82 and another for 83 and up. Does anybody know the difference in the 2 and should i go by the year of the motor or the trans because the trans is original and the motor i have no clue what year it is.
