I was thinking about putting a new exhaust system on my 95 5.8L bronco. I don't really know what I want any more specifically though, so I thought I'd try to get some opinions here.

First off, would I better off doing something else?

What brands and types of exhausts would you recommend?

ther are duals and there are upgraded stock singles, i would go with duals , there is bbk , ****** , and flowmaster and probably many more i would go with BBk shorty equal length headers equal length sounds better i think and then go to a either y pipe if your going back stock or a after market h or x pipe i would go with the h- pipe because after using both you get more preformance with an x-pipe and then get some thundermaster flowmasters and that would probaly run you a little over 700.00 to 800.00 dollars with everything and you should be able to do it all yourself... goodluck and i am sure like i said there is a couple of other brands that have good stuff like the x pipe you can get from bashini i think thats what there called or close to it but goodluck it will sound good when your done dont get GLASSPACKS they SUX

just wondering, does the stuff have to be made for a bronco? because when i looked all of the bbk shorty equal length headers were for mustangs and I can't find any dual exhaust pipes for a bronco

well it depends its kinda iffy i as long as they fit a 351 or 302 thats about where it stops though ... because from there on back it has to be either a bronco y pipe or bronco h-pipe or , from the headers back it has to be for a bronco... and if you want long tube headers they have to be for a bronco because one side i think has to fit around the frame but since the shorty headers are basically just replacement exause manifolds it dosent matter and summit has a kit for broncos that is a dual exaust kit but you have to do some welding and get the mufflers

for the money i went with flow techs shorty smog headers bolted on with no major problems and it fits the stock y-pipe with no problems as well and for 180 bucks worth it. i also have a 1 into 2 muffler from magnaflow and it sounds great. better than the flowmaster that i had on it before with the same 1-2 setup... 3inch in and duel 2-1/2 out. here is a clip of my exhaust

ok, so i've been looking around a lot, and I've come across a lot of 3" collector pipes on headers (i'm thinking of going with long tubes). does this mean that they would not fit with the 2.25" pipe kit from summit?

That's actually the kit i've got my eye on, but I'm not sure if the headers I am looking at will fit it. (see my previous post)

You just need a set of reducers that bolt directly to the collectors if your running long tubes. If you plan to keep the bronc for a while and have the extra cash go stainless, it will last forever and sounds better.

The headers I'm looking at right now are Hedman, and they are "thermal coated steel" or something like that. Is that about the same as stainless?

And on Summit, they say that the headers come with reducers. Can I choose which size I get from them?

The thermal coating is usually a ceramic coating, helps with the heat. I have JBA headers and they are awesome, only had to retighten the bolts once, I have glasspacks and hate them. Dont get glasspacks, they sound awesome at idle and when I'm bogged down in mud but other than that they are obnoxious. I have flowtech warlock mufflers on my car and they sound wicked, also they have bypasses built in to go straight pipe if you so desire, I have them out quite frequently in my car but unsure if I would like that option on an offroader. Magnaflow, dynomax, Bassani all have exellent quality mufflers as well. A lot of people like fowmaster but I personally dont care for the sound of them, sounds like a Chev. If you visit magnaflows website, they have sound clips and videos of many different cars equipt with their products. They dont have a Bronco but you can get an idea from listening to the older mustangs.

the ceramic coat help with under hood heat, stainless will just never rust and out last the vehicle. I always use stainless exhaust just because I hate doing it, its usually only $2-$400 more and well worth it (easier to weld too). As far as mufflers I like the magnaflow stainless "Magnapacks", they are a glass pack but dont sound anything like a cherry bomb etc and they give you alot more leeway working in tight spaces etc. I have long tubes w/ an X pipe into hiflow cats to magnapacks out the rear (all stainless ) on my 04 GT and I am always complimented on the sound it produces. The magnapacks are not obnoxiously loud and give a good throaty sound. I plan to put the same setup on my bronco as soon as the tax gods free up my money. As far as reducers just call summit and ask for the size you need, even if they dont come with the headers they should only run you a few dollars.

ok well the kit from summit is aluminized steel, which I'm sure will rust pretty fast. does anybody have any suggestions?

I don't really want to have to go to a shop, so a kit would be nice, and Im pretty sure I want a dual setup.

If its aluminized steel I am pretty sure you wont have to worry about rusting to much. Aluminum dont rust all that bad (LOL) Aluminized Steel is intended to be rust resistant, reduce warping blah blah blah. Sounds perfect for exhaust me thinks...

I installed the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler on my 1990 yesterday. Its quieter than my old rusted and full of holes stock one. Next week the cats come off and it gets a better purr.

the aluminized pipe is what makes my pay check every week the muffler might be a warranty job but the aluminized pipe that's rotted out after a year (at the most) is all money and some of the systems on the newer truck are about 800 and up now I remember why left the badyear shop and went back to exhaust work..lol

is there a coating or anything that I can put on the aluminized piping to help prevent rust? I've heard that they rust from the inside out though. the problem is that I already ordered the kit :blink:

not sure of any thing that can be used on exhaust to prevent rust but might try checking local plating shops they may be able to anodize, plate or maybe even powder coat really got me thinking now as am in the middle of a rust split y pipe problem at the moment and dont want to do again

well I just got my dual kit from summit today, but I realized once it got here that it wasn't quite what I expected, it's stacked both out to the right, one on top of the other. I was expecting one exit on each side, and I'm thinking of maybe getting a pipe bent to do that...but I don't know how much that would cost. any ideas?
