erratic idle

Hello,

Just purchased a 92 bronco xlt w/ 5.0 engine.

I hope I did not buy a problem.

The engine idles erratically and wants to stall after warm-up.

I am going to tune it up, but was wondering. Will a tune up solve this?

can anyone help me with some info?

Howdy & Welcoem to Bronco Zone!!!

The erratic idle may be caused by a "miss" due to a bad spark plug or wires, ditributor, or coil; a bad or dirty fuel filter or IAC (Idle Air Control) valve; or a vacuum leak. A full tune-up should clear up the problem. IF not, one of the sensors like the TPS (Throttle position sensor) may be bad or not working properly. On your 92, you can pull codes from the engine computer to diagnose any sensor or engine problems after you do the tune-up. A Haynes or Chilton repair manual details all of the above, or you can find more info in our How-To & Tech Atricles section. JSM84
