i have a 74 bronco and about to get a new interior. but im fixin all the water leaks first. i have water coming in through my door panel inserts, and seaping in through the door gaskets. the rubber gaskets are 4 years old and look to be in great condition. the fuzzy window strips are pretty worn. after a good rain i have a puddly of water on the floor. how should i go about fixing this.

Get out the silicone or drill a hole!

So let me get the right, you have fiberglass door inserts or metal doors?

You said soemthing about inserts which tells me fiberglass but then you talk about a metal door. If its the inserts then I used POR-15 seam sealer which works great. I sealed around the sides and bottom so water couldn't enter. The canvas doors do let some water in but thats to be expected.

For metal doors, you definately will need new seals at the window. This will not only keep most of the water out but will also stop the window rattle. If the door seals are tight to the door, look at the corners where the gaskets meet each other for a gap. If you do use silicone to fill in a gap you can add a thin coat of grease or petrollium jelly to the areas that you don't want it to stick to. Once the silicone is dry you can wipe off the grease and you got a silicone seal. Check the top to windshield gasket, those can leak water on the floor. If its water on the pass side, make sure its not the heater core!

im talking about the rhombus shaped interior door panel for example mine is carpeted. my doors are all steel original. the water leaks in at the bottom of that carpeted panel. also the door gaskets are good all around new ones wouldnt do any good unless they were thicker. right now my door doesnt shut tight on them. i can see gaps between the door and the gasket and water comes through there also. i do need to replace the door felts according to you so i will do that. is that easy or hard what does it take to do. does anyone have a water tight bronco. thanks

The window gaskets just pull out and clip back on.

Once those are replaced I bet the leak will go away on the door panel.

Sounds like you need to adjust your doors in so they meet the gasket. If the doors look/align good with the body you might have to add an aftermarket seal to the door so both gaskets come together.

Hi You can get aftermarket weather stripping from www.steelerubber.com. Or if you get to a swapmeet someone that sells weather stripping might have it by the foot. Softseal is another place but I don't have a web for them. At the bigger swaps they have different shapes so you can pick out what you need. I have seen where someone has used house foam weather stripping it worked but didn't last long. Hope this helps good luck
