On the driver's side door post (1973) there is a plate with 2 screws on it. I pulled the screws out and there are two wires going to this plate. What is this?

If this plate is in the upper part of the door post I think I know what it is...

I have seen this once before.

It is a temperature sensor for your engines emissions system.

Ford experimented with a temperature sensitive ignition system in 72/73.

If your engine / emissions/ distributor are still stock you will find there are a few items that are different in comparison to a "normal" Bronco.

Very few of these trucks were built, even fewer made it to the open consumer market...

The plate is on the upper door post.

If this is tied to the ignition, is there anything I have to unhook/rewire when I install a solid state distributor and hi energy coil?

I am not sure what would need replaced...

I've only seen it once before, but I will see if I can get more info for you.

I would imagine that if you changed the distributor/ ignition system, you would be disabling the system completely, and wouldn't need to worry about hooking it back up.
