Do I need to replace the transfer case on a 1988?

Hi guys, Greetings from Salt Flats, Texas. I have a dear friend of mine that gave my sweetie pie a 2WD 1988 with a 5 speed, and a 2.9 V-6.

He is in his late seventies, and sometimes forgets things. The Bronco did not have a driveshaft in it, but he included the transfer case which

was behind the back seat, all together. I was just reading my Chilton's, and discovered that starting in 1988, ALL Bronco's came with the

transfer case, even the 2WD's. Am I going to need to stick this thing back on the tailshaft of the tranny? I'm capable of doing it, I used to build the dirt trackers that I raced in East Tennessee back in the mid to late seventies. I just don't want to fuss with it if I don't have to. Sabrina, "Brie" for short.

Welcome to the Zone Brie > I'll have to let a B2 guy answer your question, but I would guess that you either have to put it back in or get a new tail piece.

Good luck,

:)>-

The tailpiece is there, and bolted to the tranny. There is no driveshaft for the Bronco, so I could get a custom driveshaft made for it IF I could get a yoke that would mate to the splines on the tranny output shaft. HEY everyone, would the front yoke on an 87 2WD Bronco bolt to the stick shift's output shaft? Brie

I'm going to try to load a photo of the two 2WD Bronco two's along with the 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ that's going to get the 2.9 V-6 and it's automatic tranny

out of the 90 XLT on the right. I've had it "up to here" with the GM, (garbage motors) engine and tranny in the Jeep. It will go from 4WD, to 2WD, but I don't care. THREE_CARS.JPG
