Darn Door!!

I have a '92 XLT and the interior door handle on the drivers side has quit working. I read somewhere in a list of recalls for that era truck that they had a recall at one point in time for that specific item because the window glass weatherstripping was allowing water to enter the door and in the winter time the water would freeze in the latch mechanism and cause the "cable" for the interior handle to become inop. I called the local Ford shop to check the VIN and they said there were no outstanding recalls.

Give me some thoughts here guys. Was the Ford shop feeding me a line or do you think that even after the fix, the problem has returned? Also, has anyone door work on this area of the door and what is the difficulty level on that?
