And the point of this is............................????

Ok, now after reading your signature several times I just HAVE to ask. You have a 92' (the last model made & the most advanced as far as engine controls & processors went) Bronco with a 5.0 and you're somehow getting 6MPG with 33's ? What are you doing ? ******* into the gas-tank every morning when you get up ? I had a mid-70's F350 w/40" tires that got better milage than that. If you're honestly & truely getting 6mpg from a late-model processor controlled 302 and running nothing larger tha 33's then you have a significant problem and it's NOT something that *I'd* post and be proud of. Now either your fuel calculations are WAY off or you're driving around with two or three sparks plugs sitting on the workbench. While admittedly 252K is an impressive number for a stock 302, it still does nothing to explain the ridiculous milage figures and IF that engine is *actually* producing that sort of milage I would NOT expect it to have lasted as long and I doubt it will last much longer.

The LAST thing you need to be worrying about is your exhaust. Hacking it up won't help you out, the weight you save is negligable and it certainly isn't going to help your milage.

To be honest when my muffler *fell* off and my exhuast was runnin outta the cat i thought it sounded like sh*t (maybe yours is different). It also caused a exhuast leak from wiggling around with no hangers to hold it in place, then it really sounded like sh*t. You think a set of Cherrybomb Glasspacks are loud wait till that happens. You cant even hear yourself think much less listen to the radio or talk. And depending on where you live your truck wont pass a visual inspection with a hacked up exhuast system when you test emissions. I would have waited and saved some money for a a true dual system with either a set of Flowmaster 40 series or some Cherrybomb Glasspacks (or turbos BB78 :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> ). Any of those will sound way better, trust me. But i guess its your truck not mine.

And as for that 6mpg out of a fuelie 302. Thats not good dude, my 351 4BBL gets about 10. I think you should be gettin around 15 with that engine. If its really gettin that id be checkin for *severly* worn ignition parts and give a complete tune up (plugs, wires, coil, cap n rotor) and check for some thrown codes and replace what wrong there.

No offence intended here man :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i actually over the weekend put in a new 02 sensor, new air filter, new ignition coil, and hacked the exhaust and i get about 10 mpg now. the o2 sensor was bad.

Your enthusiasim kicks ass. That reminds me of a friend that had an '85 Jeep Wrangler and chopped off all the components of the exhaust system off (even the maniflold). Then we went out mud running. It ran like **** and then caught fire. Luckily there was a pond nearby and we filled up buckets and doused the flames.

10mpg sucks, but is not bad for an engine with 250k. I used to get 15mpg, but now I only get 12. I can't figure out why either. I plan on giving it a complete tune-up. Maybe get new O2 sensors. After I put 33's on, it'll probably get about 10mpg.

Question how hard are you driving your trucks? I get 14-15 highway driving between 60-70 all week long and my range is around 400-420 miles per tank. I don;t have anything crazy either. Just a KN style intake i got off ebay and a tune up a while ago. I just run 32's. The extra inch cant take two more mpgs can it? I'm curious too.

Oh yeah I use Lucas fuel additive every tank and it runs as smooth as the new f150's, maybe not as quick tho

my 4.9 4speed was getting about 18-22mpg when i had it street legal. that was on 32's. sure its a single barrel but it wasnt a slouch.

ps, it sounded great at idle with no muffler but like crap when you got on it. When i redo the exhaust im putting a real muffler on it and not a glass pack. im older than that now:)

Bryan, I have a '90 302 with 33s

I calculate the difference in circumference between 31s and 33s to be about 7%

Therefore my speedometer and odometer is about 7% off Gas calculations ie mpg would also be off by 7%.

I was getting a mere 6MPG, but then gave her a good tuneup, and a needed MAP sensor, and she went up to 10MPG, recalculate for the larger diameter tires and that equates to about 11MPG. I drive her like a grandma predominately local driving where traffic lights are half a mile apart.

I just pulled codes on her and she has a little flaky EGR Valve Position sensor, and a flaky TPS. I'll replace them this week, and the gear in the transfer case for the speedometer to make that accurate. Maybe that will make a difference for me.

broncojoe, with the egr code it may be as simple as removing and cleaning the egr valve. even replacing the positioning sensor wont fix that:(

lets see......

i live in a small town, the school is less than 2 miles away. my work is 3.5 miles away. i drive maybe 8 miles a day when i had 6 mpg. i could put in 10 bucks and get exactly 21 miles every time.

i remember saying i did a complete tune up

dist. cap

wires

plugs

air filter

ignition coil

o2 sensor

oil change

exhaust

and i now get around 9-11 mpg

i put in 20 bucks last night and i got me exactly at the qaurter tank line. i drove 17 miles so far and it has barely moved below the line.

im doin good now. i can really tell the difference with the exhaust cut off, i have way more power for some reason. i go faster

hells ya it does, for some reason i dont know, it seems like tis 3x faster. from 0-40 it seems fast as ****. but after 45 if your going uphill it seems like it doesnt have the power. the rpms will go down and you have to actually punch it after that to kick it into the higher gear.but i hit 0-75 today going down the highway quick. but 0-45 it seems so much fatser. plus the air flows a little bit better so you know your doing better.

I guess that can't hurt!

I got a sensor code, I pulled it off to test it.

Haynes says it should give ohm values of 100 to 5000 ohms

Mine only gave values of 366 to 3600 ohms. I guess it is bad.
