Well guys, thanks for all of your help.
I pulled each of the wires, checked their resistance, dielectric greased them and put them back on. Two of them may not have been properly seated, which is what must have caused the new symptoms.
It must have been 30 years ago that my dad told me... 90% of the time if you give your car a good tuneup that will take care of the problem. In this case he was right. I replaced cap, rotor, (no points or condenser), plugs, fuel and air filters, and she is running like a charm. I also replaced the MAP Sensor, which may not have needed to be replaced because it may have been reporting the filthy air filter. I checked the wires by way of resistance, and spray bottle.
I just topped off the tank, and calculated my gas milage... 9.6 mpg, and I was very gentle on the pedal, so I am interested in seeing the difference this tuneup made.
I especially want to thank
SeaBronc, and
BroncoBill78, for holding my hand through this, offering suggestions and encourageing me to continue with the search.
This has been quite an education for me. Hopefully I will never need to use it again
