so i orderd a brand new crate 302 for my bronco, all stock, just 30 over, i told them about my big tire size so they suggested a little cam, its a 460 460 lift cam, they said i may need a chip for my computer, and maybe an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, other ppl tell me it will run just fine with the stock regulator and computer, so basically the motor is going to be here in 4 days, so i need to know asap, im sure someone that reads this has done or knows someone that has done this before....let me kno..........THANK YOU

LOL hmmmm youll have to have the cam specs from the cam they put in it . And youll have to find the specs from a factory cam . Then youll have to compare them especially the lobe seperation . If its too far off then it will probably not work well at all in fact you might as well leave a couple plug wires off . If you do a search for post here on this topic youll find a few good ones . In my opinion if you had the motor out already and you spent the money for a 302 that your goona have to have the computer reprogrammed for anyway why not spend the same amount of money and get 49 more cubic inches too boot . Just my opinion but Ive ran lots of 302,s and lots of 351s W and C and honestly for what the motors for and the weight of the vehicle I would never waste my money building a 302 ever again . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

if all else fails then throw away the fuel injection setup and put on a carburator. then it won't mater  for the money that u spend getting the computer reprogramed and fuel upgrades ect... it will probably work out to be the same amout to convert. but in my openion it should work just fine with the stock computer

as long as it will pass emissions that is with the carb. set up  /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

mbtech2003 you really need to go to fordfuelinjection. com and read up on how the EEC IV fuel injection system works and how important the cam timing events are to that computer it does not have any room for compensation if the computer is set for it to be 119 deg intake center with a certain lobe seperation it had better be damn close . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I will amit that i took a risk when i decited to install the cam in my truck. and it does run differently as i expected it would. but the only down side to the install that i have found is my gas milage went down by 2 mpg. not a big deal but my torque did increase. before i purchaced my cam i did post a topic that i'm sure u remember. and u responded and i quote

"The cam I used in my 351W when I rebuilt it is one that comp cams makes specifically for the fuel injected 351W . It has been a very good cam so far very happy with it and you dont have to change the computer because its ground within the limits of the computer fuel and timing map"

i consitered what u said and when i called the company that i got my cam from Iskenderian, and they said that it would perform fine with the stock computer. True the cam that i purchaced is made for the 5.0 ** eng but i had no choice for the fact that my 351 came stock with the roller lifter setup from the 5.0 ** eng.

i am happy with the desition for getting the cam and have found no major side effects from it. with that being said i feel that he should have no problem with the engine that 89Bronco58 wants to install. and that is what this forem is all about as u well know, sharing info with other bronco owners weather it is pro or con idears about the subject.

I have no hard feelings about what anybody says here. it's their right to do so and what ever 89Bronco58 decides to do i hope everything works out for him. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

thanks,

josh :)>-

More power essentially. Of course there are three different 351 motors that you hear about...The windsor, the cleveland, and the modified. Most people I know when given the choice would go with the 351W (windsor). (I'm sure the guys will correct me if I'm wrong and there is more than three...I'm even sure they'll explain the difference between them..lol)

Personally, I like the 351W. (I miss my Monarch... :(( )
