I was reading Petterson's 4Wheel the other day (or rereading) and they were going through the list of the "10 best xfer cases of all time." The BW1356 happened to fall in there, with it's light weight and pretty decent ratio. The only downside, they said, was that the internal oil pump could jar loose and fail to send oil, basicly blowing it up. BUT there is a redeming quality: it can be solved beforehand by running a sheetmetal ***** into the pump through the case wall. Anyone do this, and is it worth it? I don't have the time or money to upgrade to anything else just yet, so I'd like to make what I have as bulletproof as posible. And, knock on wood, the BW1356 has served me well.

Here is a picture of the area you are talking about (not mine). I am not sure putting a ***** into the T-case would be my first choice but you would have to open it up to get itto catch the ear corectly.

This is a thumb so the owner gets credit on supermotors

Yeah, I *knew* I'd seen something about that somewhere. I was just looking thru a link Miesk5 sent me Re. swapping an manual 1356 for my $hitty auto shifter. The page mentioned reinforcing the oil-pump arm and sure enough it's the same thing. I've seen a efew links on this mod & most of them revolve around welding a short stub of 3/8" round onto the end of the pump locater arm to keep it in place. I've seen other similar mods but they're all variations on a theme. I suppose you *could* crank a sheetmetal scre thru the magnesium case but this seems like the way to go. The bitch of it is that you pretty much have to brack open the case & either have a welder of your own (and of course, have a clue about how to weld) or spend a few more bux having it done for you.

Here's the article in full, courtesy of Miesk5: http://fullsizebronco.com/forum/showthread.php?t=66992
