Brake Light inside dash??

Hey guys/gals,

So my bronco has always done this and I was wondering if anyone knew why. Any advice is greatly appreciated. When I am driving my bronco the brake light in the dask is constantly on. I dont know why this is and has puzzled me the whole time I have owned the truck. I never bothered to fix it because it doesnt really bother me, but what does bother me is everyone asking me why it is always on. If I had to guess I would say it has to do something with the emergency brake, which doesnt work very well. So I am wondering if since the e brake is pretty much destroyed if it is not recognizing that it is off. It is not a huge concern with me because it doesnt drive funny or anything. It is just plain weird.... Does anyone elses 78/79 do this??

I don't know for certain, but I don't think that the brake light on the dash is related to the e brake, but rather it is related to your regular hydrolic brake system. IF you haven't already, checked your brake fluid level, a low level could be one cause.

AIr in the lines *may* be another. Does your brake pedal feel a little spongy? That is a good indicator that you have air in the lines and that they need to be bled.

As a side note, there isn't too much to an E-brake system. IF it isn't working well, it shouldn't be hard to fix. It is essentially a couple of levers, and a cable.

Thanks for the quick reply. The pedal does seem a little spongey. I checked the fluid the other day and it was good. I have to replace the front brakes and rotors anyway, so I might as well bleed the brakes while I am in there. Thanks for the advice! Iwill check it out in the next few weeks andlet you know. But the air in the lines sounds like what it probably is. Have a good day!

Joe, I bleed all all of the brakes and it seems to work great! THanks for the hlp I really appreciate it. Problem solved with a three bottle of fluid and an hour of work. That was pretty sweet, because I was thinking it needed new pads too, but it didnt so I saved some money. Thanks again!
