big bronco disc conversion

Hey everyone, i am converting my bronco to front disc using the big bronco knuckles and everything. Is there a difference between the ball joints on the drum knuckles and the big bronco knuckles? i read they would just swap over so not even thinking about it i bought the drum ball joints and installed them on my disc knuckles now when i try to tighten the preload sleeve inside the dana 44 is sticks out the bottom way to far for my liking. has anyone had any experience with this? am i going to have to get the correct ball joints for 78-79 bronco/f150?
