hey fella's

i have a 72 and i put a new clutch in it and resurfaced the flywheel yet it has an extremely bad hopping to it. i first thought it was the transmission but its not because when u floor it and the tires just spin then it doesnt do it it just spins butu when you ease off the clutch and it catching it does it horribly. ive been told that the leaf springs were wore out and i was gunna look into that but if you guys have any other ideas please help me because it has gotten so bad that iut is nearly impossible to drive now thanks...!!!???

Get yourself some traction bars. Duff sells a new one that works well and doesn't limit travel. Don't get the cheap kind that go above the leafs. The best way is to control the wrap top and bottom of the axle. This will clear up the hop. If you have access to a welder and sawzall you can make your own. Here's an idea...

The frame end doesn't have to have the shackle on it. You can add a heim joint or poly bushing like a radius arm bushing. This will do fine for travel and help axle wrap.

The traction bar with the shackle on it is for extream articulation so the traction bar moves with the arc of travel in the leafs/ shackle.

just an FYI here's Duff's old type. I have a set of these, they work awesome. I plan on making some with the shackel like above so I can get an extra inch or two of drop out of the rear leafs...

One of the problems of having a real short wheel base is wheel hop, and it might be the springs, but it might be the clutch. You say you just replaced it, but if you replaced the clucth cover with the stock 3 arm type, you are going to have this problem until this one wears out. I had the same problem in my 74. I put new spring eye bushings in, as they looked like they were the culprit, but nothing helped until I spent the real money on the real clutch. If you are not sure if it is a clutch problem, drop your rear drive shaft and drive in front wheel only and see if the hop goes away. If it does, look at your springs. If not, get a Zoom or Centerforce or one of similar design and forget about it. Now, had I thought it out better first, I would have gotten some of those cool lookin traction bars from Duff, and THEN the new clutch....oooohh well.

If all else checks out... it may be a clutch problem.

A contaminated clutch disc can cause chatter, grab, or dragging on release.

Also, I have seen (several times) a newly installed clutch that the torsional dampner springs have broken, also giving clutch chatter on take off.
