Hey, I just bought an '89 Bronco II 4x4. It won't start. We removed the air filter pipe on the intake and it will start and run as long as your spraying starter fluid into it. We think its the fuel pump. I've found a lot of brands online but not sure which would be the best quality. I'm very limited on funds right now. If you think it might be something other than the fuel pump please shoot me a line and let me know your thoughts. Thanks for all your help

Did you check fuses?

OR the fuel inertia switch?

Possibly a clogged fuel filter?

Possible the fuel pump relay?

When you turn the key ON, do you hear the fuel pump run for a second or two?

Prior to 1990 the full sized broncos had two fuel pumps, a high and a low pressure pump. I don't know if the B2s ahd the same set up... one in the tank, one on the drivers side frame rail.

It would be helpful to test for DTC Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Here is an instructional on how to do it, without the need for any tools except a piece of wire.

I found a great article on how to test for codes.

http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/files/self_test.pdf

This will be of particualr interest to those with 1984 through 1988 models, but is also excellent for those up to the 1995 models.

We replaced the fuel pump relay first thing. And bought a brand new batter for it and new cables and some starter fluid. Didn't have much chance to check anything else. We had it running for a few seconds with my friend spraying the starting fluid into the intake but couldn't get it to fire again. It got dark too soon with all the running around for parts. No one carried the fuel pump relay lol. I have a Haynes manual I believe. Haven't gotten a chance to check it out either though and I forgot it in my friends truck. What brands are good for replacement parts for the BII's? Ford said they discontinued factory replacements for the B2 a long time ago. Thanks for your help though man, I'm definitely gonna check all that out.

Sorry, I can't make brand recommendations for you, I don't know.

I checked autozone online for fuel pumps for the '89 B2, and they only listed ONE. So perhaps yours only has one. On the full size it is in the tank. I guess yours is also. With that being said, when you go to change the pump (if that is what it needs) there are two methods of doing the full size with that being... drop the tank, OR cut an access hole in the cargo bay to do it from the top.

I know that there is a thread with measurements etc for the big boys.. again don't know about the b2s.

BTW... you may add info about your truck... year engine size EFI trans and mods etc into your signature file so that others know what you have and can make specific recommendations.

Hey thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely do that. I believe mine is in the tank as well and I'm not really looking to do any cutting so we'll probably just cut it. . .if thats what it needs. I probably won't get to do much more work on it till tomorrow or Sunday. . .maybe Saturday. So I'll just do some research online and read my manuel. Thanks for your help man
