Axle wrap

I'm running a WH 3.5" lift with 33" tires, 351W and NV3550. If I use even half throttle, I break the rear u-joint.

I'll eventually go to 35" or taller tires (trimming if necessary, no more lift). Can anybody tell me how Wild Horse's wrap trap is working for them? Or Duff's 4-link kit? I'm only going to do the rear, the front works fine.

It doesn't look like the 4-link would be a whole lot harder to install that the wrap trap.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Have you checked for a worn pinion yoke or bad spring perches on your rig?

What he said. Also check those U-bolts to make sure they are tight. I have never used either so I can't give advice, but my axle wrap was solved by a new set of rear leaf springs, my old ones were worn out at the time.

I bought the new 11-pack leaf springs a couple years ago. This isn't my daily driver, so they probably have less than 3000 miles on them. Already tried changing the yoke (had to, I destroyed the old one last time the u-joint went out)

Are you talking about the u-bolts on the u-joint or the leaf spring? I've changed the u-joint bolts several times.

I recently added a 6 degree shim between my axle and springs. The bolts were good & tight when I took it apart, and I properly torqued them when putting back together.

I bought the complete kit when I did this lift. There wasn't a bushing, bolt, or spring reused anywhere.

Couple more ?s. What condition are the spring perches in? If they're rouinded off/ worn down, you'll get more axle wrap, even with new springs. How is your ds-pinion yoke angle now with the 6* shims? And last, what brand of u-joints are you using? Unless you're running a stroked 351W or 400 Hp 302, you shouldn't have severe axle wrap with the new springs, unless you're doing burnouts on the road.

Everything is new or in perfect condition.

These are soft rate springs, meant for rockcrawling and they do their job perfectly there. Granted, I could go easy on the throttle, but that defeats the purpose of having a Bronco. I'm looking at the Duff 4-link or the Wrap Trap so I don't have to worry about this.

Maybe check your rear drive shaft for outta round/unbalanced that can break parts if you like too spin tires in the mud and snow!!!

I know my front drive shaft is wiggly, not the joints but the slip shaft part and I get wierd noises when I do an extreme down hill....Gonna replace someday, or after it breaks...I use a ten pack with 4 removed for flex and no axle wrap but I never spin the tires, just crawwwwllllllllllll, thats what Broncos are good at, well maybe on the rocks in low gear the tires might spin....
