I'm all confused on the coding on the axle tags. This ? goes back to my axle swap. I'm dealing with a '76 front end and a '73 rear end. All stock. Here is what is on the tags.

1973

Front

4.09 D3TANA

603368-7

Rear

WEM-A 3CC

4.11 9 601B

1976

Front

4.09 D6TAAFD

603780-7

Rear

WEM-A3 6FB

4.11 9 601E

Can anyone explain these and can you tell me if the front from the '76 would work with the rear of the '73. Or would it just be easier to use both axles from the '76?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Yes you can use the different axles. They will work because both are the 4:11/4:09 combo, so yeah you can swap the front 76 into the 73's place. Make sure that you take the steering linkage off that 73 and put it on the 76 though. The 9" on the 76 might have limited slip if I remember correct. I think that A2 & A3 are LS....but don't hold my feet to the fire on it.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

About the steering linkage, I have heard that it not necessary to make the switch. I understand that the '73 steering linkage is thought to be a better set up but this vehicle will only see medium off-road use. Mostly desert back roads looking for quail. Do you agree with this?

Thanks again for the advice.
