Here is my question. I'm still a bronco newbie, but you gotta start somewhere right. I now have two broncos. One 89 with auto tranny and one 88 with manual (not running). Is a manual transmission a better tansmission? I plan on using my bronco for everyday use, and the occasional towing... I know it's an ordeal swapping them out, but it is worth the effort? Thanks.

It's really personal preference. Technically, an auto trans slips a little more, so you don't get as much horsepower from the motor as a manual. That's not much of an issue, though, with a 200HP stock motor and 5800 lb. Bronco. For a daily drive, I have auto's. For trail rigs, I like a manual with a granny low (6:1) first gear. LEts you creep over thing undere the engine's poweer in 4-Low.

Manuals are great - I prefer them in almost all instances. This is my first Bronco, but I've been around lots of 4wd trucks. I believe that you can tow significantly more with the auto, though. How heavy is the trailer you plan to tow? I only have the stats for '96, but check your owner's manual and you should be able to see the difference in towing capacity between the two. If you can deal with the smaller towing capacity, I'd go manual (for mileage, trail ability, and jump start capability :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> ).

i also have a manual tranny in my 95 and i do tow thing like my 20 ft boat all the time and my dirtbike trailer all the time as well as some other things on accasion and i have never had a problem with it, i have also herd that they are much better and hold up more than the automatics, thtey also give you more power, so i say manual all the way

I like Automatics because in city driving the clutch wears on the left knee and in back country driving I can pay more attention to keeping my fenders intact.
