My bronco has a tendency to almost stall when I shift from park to drive first thing in the morning, or when I go to leave from work. It's fine when it's warm, it's fine when I run out to grab lunch. I'm not really worried all that much anymore, since I got a 351w I'm putting together. I'm just wondering is it the engine/tranmission warming up, or maybe because I'm running 20w50 oil? It just seems to start moving, then almost stop and stall until I give it a little gas.

The oil has nothing to do with it, I have been running 20W50 for several years and don't have that problem.

most likely a sensor for the injection might be acting up, like the air idle control most likely. Is the check enging light on ever? I see your going from 302 to 351, just wondering if your aware of what that engine swap needs to be properly done?

The engine lights never been on, no. And I'm not sure exactly what's needed, but it's still a work in progress. I literally just got the block a week ago, so it's a planned work-in-progress.

okay well to make a 302 truck to a 351 truck you need to change the following, you need a computer and wiring harness (motor/injection) from a 351 truck, you need exhaust from a 351 truck, ( y pipe) because 351's are wider on top, you need to use a 351 flywheel because the 302's have a larger weight and the vibration will be terrible and tear the bottom end apart ( i know from experience ) the fan shroud on a 351 truck has a different offset that a 302 truck has so the fan will not line up with a 302 shroud, you need the 351 trucks shroud, on a 351 mkotor there is not nock sensor like a 302 has, this is the sensor on the top rear od the motor going straight down into the block just behind the lower intake, so you will not need to worry about that ( just fyi in case you noticed) and the EGR is located in the same spot on the upper intake but a 302 EGR system runs into the lower intake, as where on a 351 truck is runs into the passanger exhaust ,manifold, so get the exhaust manifold from a 351 truck unless your fabbing something yourself and using headers, and since the motor is wider things will be more stretched out, when i did this same swap my ac lines were a little stressed to bolt up so i removed a mount from the firewall to loosen it up a bit and it worked fine. I think i basically coverd everything here but i would advise to leave it a 302 or 306 truck because with all the money your going to spend you could build a 302 with more power than a stock 35. I spent 1200 dollars on a crate 302 from S&S engines and have a few minor things done to it and it has more power than my 351 ever did, just my opinion tho, good luck

The only thing I can think is that your timing is off a bit. I know I had that problem in on Olds. station wagon and it was the timing. Not to mention it was a GM product wich ment it sucked anyways (in my oppinion)

i have heard that the coolant temp sensor plays a key role when the enging is cold, you might want to try and change that, r u sure you have a working bulb in your check enging light since its never been on? turn the key on but dont start the truck, and that light should come on

The light works, it just never comes on when the engines running.

And it's gonna be a long project and something to get my hands dirty, I don't mind the work or the money (as long as it's not something astronomical). For me, it's experience and knowledge under the belt.

Thanks 89Bronco58. >
