I am looking at putting an aftermarket air conditioning unit in my wife's 77 Bronco. Has anyone done this, and where would be a good place to find one?
The only kit I could find was from Autokrafters.com for $1095.00. Kinda pricey IMO, but that depends on if you are in the AZ desert or in CO where I am. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
The other thing you need to think about if you do put an A/C unit on it is to make sure the rest of the electric and cooling system is up to the task. Dont want to have the engine overheat because the inside is keeping cool.
I put A/C in my Bronco. I'm running a 351W (which makes things nearly impossible as all the brackets and pullies will have to be fabricated). However, if you've got a 289 or 302, it shouldn't be so tough.
First, get an a/c kit from Vintage Air. You can go on their website and find local dealers. Then, call some and see about having it installed. The complete kit costs about $1500 if I recall. I added, some billet accesories / knobs. You can really get wild with the vetns and stuff. You'll also have to make sure you have enough engine cooling capability.
Thanks for the sources for the kits. I didn't realize how expensive those really are! It looks like I will be able to afford to install the air conditioning somewhere around December/January so she can really appreciate it! )
