HELLO..I HAVE A STOCK 95 XLT BRONCO WITH A 5.8..WITH STOCK 31" TIRESI WANT TO LIFT IT AND ADD SOME LARGE TIRES..
I WANT TO KNOW IF A 6" LIFT AND 37" SOUNDS GOOD?
IM NOT LOOKING TO REALLY GO OFF ROADING SINCE I LIVE A BLOCK AWAY FROM THE BEACH..
SO ITS PRIMARLY FOR LOOKS..
HOW MUCH AM I LOOKIN AT FOR THE LIFT KIT, TIRES, AND LABOR ROUGHLY?
If you are patient and shop around alot, the lift and tires will run you $2000 - $2500. (for the parts) Thats just lift and tires, not labor.
You will notice a drop in power with the larger tires. That may not bother you if you're doing the job just for looks but to fix it you will need to replace the stock gears in the front and rear differentials. Two sets of ring and pinion gears + master install kit will be around $400 - $500. (once again, thats only the parts)
Labor, I can't really say because I do all of my own work. The lift installation would take around 6 - 8 hours if you don't run into problems. (rusted bolts, something doesn't line up, etc.) The new gears would be a few hours for each one. I
think the going rates for labor are around $70 per hour. (I could be way off with that number, it is only my SWAG; scientific-wild-a$$-guess)
My personal opinion is to stick with 35" tires to avoid having to trim your fenders or bumper. (you could also go higher with lift to acomodate 37's but then you get into problems with the length of the driveshafts and brakelines, not to mention the lift kit itself would cost more)
This may all sound overwhelming, but I say go for it. You will be pleased with the results. If you are good with your hands or have a good friend who is, you can save yourself a ton of money by doing your own work. If you have to buy a few tools, it may still be cheeper than spending over $1000 on labor. Plus you get the satisfaction of saying "I built this". So do your research, make your choices and enjoy your ride!
By the way welcome to Broncozone! >
