Just pulled abs code on my E.B. 95 model with 5.8L and E40D, Got code 26, I have no clue what the Axle Inlet Solenoid Valve is, or where it is. Any help???
26 Rear Axle Inlet Solenoid Valve Concern Diagnosis
Possible Source(s):
Intermittent open Circuit 499 (GY/BK).
Terminal backout in anti-lock brake electronic control module connector Pins 17 and 33.
Terminal backout in anti-lock hydraulic control unit connector Pins 1, 4 and 2.
Open or shorted inlet rear axle valve coil.
Open or shorted driver in anti-lock brake electronic control module
Axle Inlet Solenoid Valve is inside the 4WABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) that is located in the front of the engine compartment on the left frame rail. right behind & below the coolant reservoir/ws washer fluid tank
HCU consists of a valve body assembly, a pump and a motor assembly; all in 1 piece
4WABS Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) Description , Location & Operation; "...located outside of the engine compartment on a bracket which attaches to the left frame rail. It consists of the following: Brake pressure control valve block assembly, Pump motor, Hydraulic control unit reservoir w/ a fluid level indicator assembly..." read more Source: by combo of Chilton/Nichols/Delmar, & Haynes via autozone.com
FYI. the rear axle valve is shown in this diagram by Chilton (not needed in pin-point tests below)

There are 2 connectors from da HCU; one is for the HCU pump's motor & is the smaller connector (not needed in pin-point tests below) and the other is titled da HCU connector that has 8 pins
You'll be addressing the "COMPONENT SIDE " next in pin-point tests

4WABS Self Test & Connector Diagrams, Component Locations, DTCs & Possible Causes for 93-96 - see Fig. 3 for using 12 v. light or ABS Light (or Ford's STAR tester-obsolete); "Locate ABS Test Connector; install 12 v test light between Pins C and E; If no test light is used, ABS warning light will flash; jumper ABS Data Link Connector Pins B and E..." read more Source: by Chilton (combo of Chilton/Nichols/Delmar, & Haynes) via autozone.com
go to Fig. 23: 4-wheel ABS testing-1993-96 Bronco models
Disconnect HCU connector
Inspect pins/sockets and follow the test procedures in Chilton
Next disconnect the 4WABS ECU (not the usual powertrain ecu/PCM)
it is also titled 4WABS Control Module
it is in front of HCU beneath da coolant reservoir/ws washer fluid tank
you'll need a 10 mm socket to get it unbolted. then disconnect and follow remainder of testing
btw, my 96 has a 25 code; I went thru all da pin-point tests and all is good; exc for the driver in anti-lock brake electronic control module.. not event he Ford EVTM/Service? CD will provide an ECU self test on this driver.
and, that ECU connector does get a lot of coolant/washer fluid drips, so ck it out thoroughly.
