90 bronco issues

I love doing rear brakes. It's like a big puzzle. Kind of like putting in a clutch and remounting the transmission. I always hate doing discs cause I am scared I will bust one of the cylinders while prying them apart. I don't know if thats even possible, but I am sure that if it is I will do it.

You hit the nail on the head with the whole dad thing. He asked me once if I knew how to do brakes and before I could catch myself I said "yeah". Next thing I knew I was up to my elbows in Lincoln Town Car brake dust. I think I have weasled my way out of putting them on his cadillac this weekend, but his memory is like a dern elephant.

Out of curiosity. Is it just the Auto Zone in High Point that hires women with no knowledge of cars and fingernails so long they can't even type into the computer what part you are looking for is that everywhere?

Yep pretty much, and not limited to Auto Zone. They like to hire people with no auto experience because in the past some auto "experts" dont even bother with the computer because they all ready know what part goes on what car. They want people they can train to use the computer each and every time so that there are no mix ups because computers are never wrong. )

Not just Autozone, at the Advance Auto near my house in Killeen they have one, too. She's real easy on the eyes, but you leave with a headache after trying to explain to her what you want (even though you have looked up the part on their website, confirmed that they do have one in that store, and give her the part number). Can't hate her though, 'cause, after all she is sooooo easy on the eyes. /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

as a far as the women at parts stores....yeah..they are everywhere. at least i dont feel bad when i stare at them. i just imagine that is what they are there for.

some ****** that works at advance auto near me tried to tell me that a C6 would never fit in my rig and that there is no such thing as vacuum modulators in the C6's...i looked on his computer and brougt it up in 2 seconds..needless to say he was fired

that sucks...hard

so here is an update after the work today.

the brakes are now complete, tires are mounted (and they look sweeeeeet....), oil changed, tranny dropped, & torque converter swapped. we are going to get a seal pressed in this week and the hope is to mount the tranny and change the filter and gasket next sunday.

come to find out, the reason we had so many issues with the tranny drop.....you have to remove the inspection cover....wow...we are dumb...in the words of carlos mencia....dee de dee!!

im hoping to get 'er on the road this sunday. just need to mount the tranny (thats gonna ****..i can feel it). and put the right front tire on and she 'should' be ready to rock out

here is an update on the truck....after 5 weeks...

torque converter installed and tranny mounted

new brakes all around

oil change

tranny fluid change

new red top battery

new ignition installed

new battery cable (+ only)

new wheels and tires

and for the best part....

today was the first time i heard her fire up and it was sweet. she idles a little rough, but that is probably due to ****** gas, sitting for 8 months, and sea foam. it looks like i will be doing a tune up in the very near future.

now here is the bad news....

need to install new rear up shock mounts (got them from the graveyard)

install new coilovers in the back

install new shocks up front (one is in, but the other three are so rusted that we are going to need to cut them out)

find the 2 bolts for the linkage point between the floor shifter and the t-case (if anyone knows the size and thread pattern, that would be awesome!!!!) :angry: ( :angry: (

im hoping to get back out there tomorrow, but i have a lot of personal crap i need to finish...so who knows.

Advance has one, ugly as **** and can't speak english too well. All she knows how to do is just type on the computer and if its not listed, then its not there. Personally, if the part is more important than a decal, I go directly to Ford. I've learned from past expierence that Ford parts last longer and are better for the truck.

Not completely. At mine in Jersey, I have one of my best friends (female, knows more about cars than most mechanincs do) and then theres... yea, "them." The nails aren't so long, the brains are kinda there, but unless you can bring in the part or at least a good picture of it, you're not walking out with the right part...

More than once I have walked in, when my friend was off duty, and they had to call her in to find parts for me... It's kinda a shame that she bookmarked MY TRUCK so she doens't have to type in "1990 Ford Bronco 4wd 302 efi" anymore. But then again, I get in and out in a hurry, get the employee discount, and everyting I put on is new, has a warrenty, and won't need to be replaced anytime soon (I hope I don't jynx myself...)

No I think that's pretty much everywhere. Business must be bad so they hope the hot (or hopefully hot) women will do the trick! I know just enough to be dangerous and I still wouldn't apply for a job in an auto parts store. It would be just my luck that they would require me to grow my nails long cause eeeewwwwww-wwweeeeeee I am a pretty man. Just kidding. I can gaurantee someone would **** me off and I would give em the wrong part just out of spite. I can see it now - " Sure son we have some muffler bearings for your fast and the furious piece of crap"

I've found that the best place to get parts is from the local auto suppliers, and napa, because they actually hire people that know what they are talking about. The only time I go into advanced or any place like it is when I know exactly what I need and don't have to talk to the stupid people at the service counter for it, you know like oil and oil filters.

The big chains (like Autozone, Advance, O'Reilly's, Napa) all have websites where you can find the exact part# before you go to the store. That helps a lot when the counter person is not as knowledgeble as they should be. Some of the sites can even tell you which outlet in your area has your part in stock. I've gotten some strange looks from the "slower" clerks when you tell them the part number and that they do, in fact, have one in stock.
