Anyone know what all is *supposed* to come with the factory tow package ? Courtesy of Miesk5 I called the Ford Customer Relationship Center about 6-8 wks ago to ask for a build sheet on my 88'. While the girl who answered was pleasant enough and *wanted* to help she wasn't able to bring up ANY data on the truck & the VIN I provided her was correct after ck'ing both the title & the truck. She passed the problem off to the Research Unit and that was the last I heard of it. Well, yesterday I received a letter from them with a breakdown of my truck's VIN, it's build date, and a list of everything it was equiped with when built. The sheet said that mine had originally been an electronic shift-on-the-fly truck but I had pretty much figured that one out on my own and knew that a prev. owner had converted it to manual. The letter also mentions that it came from the factory with the towing package. That would explain the class 3 hitch on it but I didn't know what else was included with the package. I haven't seen a tranny cooler on it but I don't know if that was part of the package or not. The letter also says it had 3.55's and that agrees with the door sticker, so I guess I should be thankfull it didn't come w/3.08's. Unfortunately all this letter really tells me is exactly when it was built, that it has the towing package, it confirms it was originally an electric xfer case and that the interior & exterior colors haven't been changed & someone swapped out the rims. Big freaking whoop.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone else called these folks and gotten an actual built sheet (or a copy of one) or does everyone just get a letter like this ?

My bronco is an 86 and it has a tow package on it.

mine has the 3.50 gears, 351 windsor with a 4 barrel, 9" rear, C6, tranny cooler, the receiver hitch and quad shocks in the front. Any other bronco ive seen that was and 86 with out the tow package had the same gears but an 8.8 rear end, the 302 V8 or 300 L6, no tranny cooler, an EOD tranny, dual shocks instead of quad in the front and the hitch ball was on the bumper

or it didnt have one.

Im not sure if they changed much for the 88 bronco (maybe dropped the 9"?) but hopefully this helps man. :)>-

Mine's an 88'. I've got an 8.8", 3.55's, open diff, quad shocks & class 3 hitch. EFI 302 but I've seen no cooler. On the other hand my engine has been replaced as well as the xfer case, so maybe it was lost somewhere along the line

Bill,

You may find a B S (no pun inteneded my friend!) under;

pass. side or under driver's side front carpet/mat

rear cargo area mat/carpet

That is all you'll get w/the ph # request.

I've contacted Ford Tech many times by letter, e mail and phone trying to get the Coding info for the actual BS's; no-go so far.

Cool, thanks for the info, I'm glad to know that what I received was pretty much the standard deal-io when you contact the via the phone#. Seems like it's pretty much the same as what you would have seen on the window-sticker. I appreciate your taking the time to dig up the info on the phone# for us.

I guess I was just expecting more info. The build sheet you linked to had a TON more info than this letter they sent me. For instance, the letter tells me the truck same with 3.55 gears and it tells me it came with the towing package but I have to go out & ck the door tag (H9) to see that it has a limited slip. Now I guess maybe that's a gimme with the towing package but still, I would have expected *that* sort of info to show up on a build-sheet request, even if I didn't get an honest to God build sheet. To be honest this letter contains even LESS info than the window sticker did, since I'm sure the sticker included the limited slip diff in there somewhere.

Still, not to look a gift horse in the mouth, it's more than I had before and I was really just looking to confirm that it had originally been an electronic shift xfer case that some clown had replaced and never bother to install the shift lever on (I still shake my head & wonder how in the world somebody manages to do that)

Anyways, whining aside I still appreciate all the info you've contributed. Thanx again for all the help

Hmmm, that's interesting. According to Ford mine came w/the Tow Package. I've got the front quad shocks, 3.55 gears, a trac-lok differential, Auxillary transmission AND power steering coolers, and the Class III receiver hitch. Try as I might I simply *can't* find any documentation anywhere as to what exactly the "tow package" consisted of. I have a rear sway bar (whoops, *had* one. It's still there but I snapped it goofing around and it needs to come off) but nothing up front, although this thing has been so hacked on that it may well have originally come with a front bar but someone removed it along the way. I'm *supposed* to have a stock Xfer case skid plate too, but that's long gone. I suppose when the transfer case cases went from being cast iron to magnesium someone figured that making a skid plate standard equipment would be a good idea :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yea i would think your truck came with all that stuffs thats missing. My 86 has a Tcase skid, plus the tranny cooler and think the powersteering is linked to it also, my truck also had the swaybars.
