88 302 problems

i have an 88 bronco with a 302 and its backfiring and missing bad could that be my timing?

You are in the ball park, that is usually associated with timing. Was it working fine when you bought it?

It could be a fouled spark plug, or a bad plug wire (wires), rotor or cap. I would check the simple things first. I like to look for shorted plug wires at night, its easy to see if they are arcing. Good luck

Yah! A good way to do that is to use a spry bottle to put a mist in the air around the plugs and wires. It will help in detecting arcing problems.
