Hello, this is my first post after being a lurker for quite some time. I have a question concerning my 84 XLT. I was deployed for a loooong time and to make a short story; my fullsize that was running beautiful when it was parked in 97 has sat even until now. My Dad said he'd keep it running, but it never happened. It's been sitting in the driveway and in the weather of a humid upstate SC. What are your opinions at what the minimums are to get it running again? I fear that I'll invest more than what I originally paid in a rebuild. It has a 351W and 67,000 original miles. Thanks for the website and your input. OB

Welcome to the Zone > post some pictures.

The carb probably should be taken apart and cleaned real good, (rebuild kit and soak the carb in cleaner to get the varnish disolved and then blow out all passages). Exchange any gas that is in the tank, probably drop and flush the gas tank. Probably should remove the plugs squirt in some **** and try to turn it over slowly with a remote start button. If it sat in the same spot on the tires all that time they probably are pretty much trashed.

Good luck,

:)>-

hey well i have the same engine and its very reliable but you should clean the intake and spark plugs, most auto parts stores will have engine treatment for the gas, i would carb cleaner and octane boost that way you wont have to change all the gas, i know thats expensive then change the the plug wires and cap once you do get it running which will take a weekend or less rev the **** out of it
