After the wiring problem has been fixed and it charges the battery 3 new things arise.

I am just destined to turn this truck into scrap metal.

The mechanic who fixed the wiring says a lifter in the engine is bad. Not sure what all that does to the integrity of the engine. How long should i wait to get it fixed?

I drive the beast (i use that term loosely) today and try to get it on the highway for a few exits to see how much guts it has. The car has little acceleration and poor torque. Is this common on all 2.8's? Then when i park it i notice that there is smoke from the carb. It looks like the oil leak is causing this plus the strain on the engine.

Then on my way home i take the back way. After turning right its starts to shake like it is out of alignment then after a little bit it pops and then is fine..

Is this thing possessed?

I need some advise. How much should i put in this? I just lost my job and dont have the stress capacity to deal with it. I need some help.

Thanks again for hearing my fustration..

Sorry for the need to vent.

Most Broncos seem to be money pits $-) . If you have another vehicle, why don't you take it off the road for a while. It sounds like it needs a lot of tender loving care  .

You can do lifters yourself. The acceleration and torque are probably related and they could be affected by several things. Do you have over sized tires? If so, the gearing might need changing. Perhaps the carb needs a rebuild or replacement. If the oil is getting into the intake area you may be right about the smoke. The shake followed by a pop may be a ball joint. Any of those jobs are possible for you to do yourself.

Good luck,

:)>-

Thank you for the info. The bad thing is I need a second car for finding and keeping a job. This poses a problem when money is so tight i squeak when i walk. If i had the money to park and fix it i would but time and cash is against me. If i needed to unload it do you think i could get 1k for it? I believe i need to invest in a bronco later in life when i have time to work on it and fix it up right.

Thank you for all your great advise seabronc.

The 2.8l has adjustable valves and solid lifters, thats why 90 percent of them clatter a lot. It usually does not affect durability. I have been a mech. for Ford since 1991. Inspect your front end at all points that move for loose bushings and joints. The most common are the radius arm bushings. Also check your u-joints at both front wheel ends.

i agree with the radious arm bushing, if its bad the whole arm will move back and forth when you turn the wheel and it will make a pretty good noise
