What size tires do you have and what is the rear end gear ratio? If you have large tires and a high gear ratio it suffers on low end power.

Good luck,

What have you done to eliminate some of the possibilities? Have you done a tune up? What is the condition of your carburetor? 31 inch tires aren't going to make it a dog but you should still find out the gear ratio. It is listed on the Safety compliance Sticker that is on the driver side rear door post, listed under axle code. If the gears are the stock issue the code is accurate. There also should be a tag on the rear differential that gives the ratio.

If your running over sized tires with a stock running gear there you have it ! sounds like gear ratio problems more than enging Hp issue

I would start with the basics: tune-up including plugs, wire, coil, distributor cap$rotor, PCV valve, fuel filter, check timing, idle setting, and check for vacuum leaks. If the carburetor is the original, it's a likely culprit from being worn out (bad accelerator pump or float). Check the exhaust while running with a piece of paper. IF the paper jumps errratically or sucks back into the pipe, you have a miss or vacuum leak. JSM84
