im curious i would like to keep this axle for my project and would just like to know what kind of power numbers it can hold up to stock or if it was rebuilt...its the "h9" axle so i know it has 3.55 gears with the limited slip and i was gonna put posi in it as well

all depends on how deep your pockets are...with a c-clip eliminator, moly axles, detroit locker good ring and pinion they can hold up to around 600hp i have see nit done many times

I agree with swampthing, with the proper mods you can build a beefy 8.8". In stock form, you'll want to look at the weak points if adding larger tires or more engine (like a 460 or sb stroker). The 8.8" axles attach to the diff with C-clips, weak point no. 1. The axle tubes are usually just spotwelded to the center section, weak point no. 2. If you're running a mild 302/351 V8, with tires no larger than 35's, all you may need is a decent limited slip.I've seen many of the factory-equipped Trak-lock's go out due to wear, but most of these are the originals. I've also seen a few broken teeth on the pinion gear. if you plan to run bigger tires or do that engine swap, then a Sterling 10.25" from an F-350 is a better axle. But there are lots of Jeeps and Explorers and other rigs running slightly modded 8.8" axles on the trails, JSM84
