I've got the Bronco bug and have been looking at a '79 with the 351M, auto tranny, A/C...seems to be loaded. Guys says that it is in pretty good shape with little or no rust and that it is all original with the exception of some engine mods. Can any of you give me advice on a good price for something in this range?

i bought my 79 ranger xlt for $2800 with the 400/c6/203 white/yellow w/ racetrack trim it was mechanically sound with very little rust found only above rear fender wells which i planned to cut out anyway none on the tailgate. the steering was a sloppy due to worn out tie rods and basically non-exsistent trac arm bushings. original paint still shines and came with brand new 33x12.50 bfgs on 10" wagon wheels and a 3" rancho lift w/ radius arm drops. my only complaint is the motor does burn some oil. i bought it looking at potential and im very happy with it. ive since bought 2 other broncos for extra parts and swapped in a beefy c6 with wide ratio kit , 205, wristed arm deaver springs long shocks etc.., mud terrains instead of a/ts, 80s buckets seats on the 79 frames, bedlined interior, winch bumpers, round headlights, it never ends buts its been a blast so far workin on it. the factory air and cruise on the thing still works even! the more your around the 78/79s the more you appriciate them. 3 of the other 5 owners of these around here are the original owners of them...thats gotta mean somethin.

Between 2k and 4k is where I would pay for this year bronco that runs and has little body damage (i.e. Rust, Crash, etc.)

I bought two '79's for $500 and 1k on body then put them together to make a sweet truck. You just have to wait for the right ones to show themselves for what you are willing to pay for it. This might stir up some crap but the 351M to me is a pos. I blew two of them. I finally went with a 460 from a Lincoln something or other. Then I sold it like a chimp.

You mean, like a chump?Seems loaded, as in how?  Is it a Custom, or a Ranger XLT?

Yes, like a chump. I would buy it back if I ever saw it but it seems to be gone forever.

I bought my 79' Bronco ranger xlt for $1300

It had rust in the floor and the door jams from the previous owner removing the inner fenders and then mudding and not cleaning it properly. :(( Mechanically it was sound and it had and still has 6" lift with 35's, aftermarket wheels, sony speakers, head unit, and amp. Interior was a little rough, and side windows leaked a little.
