Was on the beach today and while in 4wd it kept slipping out of gear. It would drive for about a hundred feet, then act as if in neutral and making a clicking sound. Putting it in 4 low would allow me to continue. Putting it in park and turning the 4wd off and on sometimes made it work again, but only for about a hundred feet before it did the same thing. It seems to be a problem with whatever makes it go from 4 high to 4 low.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I'm low on cash so I may just have to drive in 4 low for the rest of the summer, will this **** the engine?

Thanks!

btw - it's a 1995 Automatic with the small v8

I would almost bet money that the oil pump has failed in your T case and the guts are being torn out of it now . Pretty soon youll hear a bang and it wont move anymore . The fact that is still goes into 4 lo is a good sign that the damage isnt catostraphic yet but if you keep driving it will be . Usually when the pump locks up the 4 low fork is cast aluminum ( the new update is plastic ) and it gets smashed and is non existant . I would quit driving it if you can and get the T case pulled out there very easy to fix yourself I started a post on rebuilding one it has pics and so on I think I stopped somewhere around putting the case back together didnt have the camera and ran out of time . I have rebuilt a few of these should have around $250 to $300 in parts as long as the main shaft isnt torn up . Ill give you a guys number for parts hes outta MI but you really cant beat his prices . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Thanks Blade, hate to hear such bad news. I only paid $300 for the truck and it's pretty beat up by whoever had it before me. I'm ok with just finishing up the summer in 4lo and then getting rid of it, but if it breaks down on the beach it's going to cost me a bundle. If this bang does happen, do you think the 2wd will still work?

Nope it will quite moving altogether theres a coupler on the main shaft that slides back and forth when the fork breaks theres nothing to hold this and it will slide where ever it feels and once the shaft is uncoupled your basically in neutral with no way of putting it back into gear . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
