Can't comment on the Avenger but 470 is not too big for a 302, you could go up to the 600 to 650 range in a 4 BBL, going above 650 on a stock engine simply means the secondaries would not get very much if any use at all. Holley is a great carb if you want an infinately tunable carb. They take a lot better understanding of what's going on than some other brands if you are going to tune them to a specific application. Others like Edlebrock are more targeted to someone who needs a plug and play system.

Faliures on the highway sounds like the old blown power valve thing. They have been improved and you can put in a power valve protector and a lot of the new Holleys come with it already installed.

Good luck,

:)>-

They have been advertized in most of the off road mags,as for small v-8s,and six cyllinders.I really think it might be just right ,I had a 500 cfm holley that ran perfect, but Im no mechanic.I think 670 is too big and thats the next one up.Bandit

I just finished putting the 2 bbl 500 cfm Holley 4412 in my 289 last weekend. I've loved it so far and the response in second gear is amazing. It's easily tunable with or without a vacuum guage. I did have to raise the float, but that's no big deal. I also had to buy a spacer so the pump wouldn't hit on the intake manifold. Bought it at Autozone for $210--I couldn't find a brand new one on the internet that cheap. Good luck!
