1987 bronco2 front axle

My 87 bronco2 has 1/4-1/2" of play(up and down) where it enters the hubs. Is this a result of bad bearings? if so, how much work to replace? Thanks. Ps- the axle u-joints appear to be tight-all the play occurs at the hub side.

if its wheel bearings its not hard at all get a manual at autozone or somewhere and itll take ya through it. i dont quite understand what your saying but what you describe sounds more like the ball joints gettin loose.
