150k Curse(s)

Ever since I hit 150k on my 96 Bronco little annoying things are starting to pop up and I just need some help on 3 of em.

1. I replaced my 02 sensors when my check engine light came on @ 150k and the diognostic said my 02 sensors were bad however the check engine light still won't go off. I had the shop run another diognostic that said the 02 sensors were still at fault. So i took some dielectric grease and up that in the connectors thinking that they where bad but still no luck. I had the shop reset the computer and that worked for about 10-15 miles and the light came back on.

2. Temperature Gauge: My temp gauge doesn't have actual numbers it just has the word "Normal" written. The needle normally stays on the "O" but just recently I've noticed that the needle will travel all the way over between the "M" and "A" and then it will fall back to the "O" (it does all this in the matter of 10-15 seconds). I was puzzled because the needle rose and fell so fast that somthing must be wrong. Today i will change out the thermastat but I don't know if that will be the solution to the problem. Really need the help on this one.

3. After trips at highway speeds my Bronco won't start. When I end a trip of such nature I have to let the bronco sit for a good 45 min before it will start again. When i try to start it before that you can hear the starter kick but it doesn't turn over (almost as if its not getting enough juice) but that isn't the case because the battery has a good charge, I have also replaced the celinoid on the side wall. I was told that the problem could be the negitive grounds.

If you could give me any suggestions on how to fix any of these problems it would be greatly appreciated

As far as the O2 sensor I'm not to sure. Im not a real computer and sensor kind of guy, With the temp sensor mine was acting funny not to long ago, It would read really hot ( on the A or L first thing in the morning, then as she warmed up it would read normally. I pulled the temp sensor and it had a bunch of build up on it. I cleaned it off and it works great now!!

As for the starter, sounds to me like its getting hot, You say the truck starts fine after it cools off? Are all of the heat shields in place on the exhaust. My friend had the same problem after he put headders on his f150. We made a heat shield out of some old sheet metal and it has cured the problem for his rig.

The temperature gauge on my bronco usually rises slow to about 1/2-3/4 of the way until the thermostat opens and then instantly drops to about 1/4 of the way.The thermostat may be sticking somewhat causing this on yours.As far as the o2 sensor check the wiring carefully for breaks or burns or corrosion on the connector, and for the problem with the truck not starting after it gets hot (if it still cranks normally) I would check or have someone check the pickup coil in the distributor because i went nuts trying to figure this out on a cougar i used to have,I changed the coil and ignition module (usually the most common cause of no start or intermittent shutdowns in fords) with no luck and then I swapped out the distributor and never had any problems.My friend had the same problem with his 91 crown vic and with a multimeter checked the resistance of the pickup coil and after it was hot and you would shut it off the resistance went to 0 but after it cooled for a bit went up to around 400 ohms.His friend had a 302 laying around and we swapped the pickup coil and never had any problems.You can get information on specs from a good repair manual from a library.

Local auto parts store didn't have the termostat which i have ordered, as far as the temp sensor where is that located at? The starters age apparently caught up to it, the heat sheild was in place and working, the starter (original for all i know) was just to old so i replaced it and drove it on the highway no problem.

sorry to leave you hangin like that, Temp sensor location depends on engine. My 351 its on the right front ( facing the truck ) of the intake right smack dab between the distributor and the valve cover with a one wire connector. On my 300 six its right on the thermostat housing itself with a two wire connection. You can generally get a new one under 15 bucks. I was just being lazy when I cleaned mine, If your gonna pull it, put a new one in????
